2018 Maruti Ertiga: What should be your expectations?

What should be your expectations from the 2018 Maruti Ertiga? Should it be better equipped? More fuel efficient? Or offer more space on the inside?

The second generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is all set to make its debut in India on the 21st of November this year!

And unless you have been living under a rock, you must be aware of its unveiling in Indonesia recently as it was one of the most talked about cars in the Indian automotive media since the last couple of months.

The 2018 Maruti Ertiga (Read More), with its new exterior design and interior upgrades, promises to be a set-up in comparison to its predecessor. Not only this, but it is based on a lighter and stiffer platform. In addition to this, it is also going to feature a new petrol engine which will go on sale paired with a mild-hybrid system.

All of this looks exciting to you? It sure does!

But what exactly should be your expectations from the all-new 2018 Maruti Ertiga?

Will it be a genuine upgrade from the older iteration? Or a classic case of old wine in a new bottle?

Well, from our initial impressions, it seems that Suzuki has indeed gone for the older wine i.e. the idea of offering a budget, 7-seater people carrier is still at heart behind the second generation update of the Ertiga.

However, with the improved styling, both on the outside as well as the inside, the 2018 Maruti Ertiga is going to all a bit of flair to what otherwise was a rather simple product.

The aggressive front end with its large sweptback headlamps and the chrome grille along with the sharp styling of the bumper gives a very premium appearance to the new Ertiga. The side profile with its strong lines and large windows adds to it even further.

That said, it is the rear fascia of the 2018 Ertiga that fancies your attention the most. The L-shaped headlamps, the boot-lid crease and the augmented bumper give this MPV a very mature stance.

It is really hard to fault the 2018 Maruti Ertiga for its exterior design. That said, is it a similar story when it comes to the interiors as well?

To be very honest, the interior design, unlike the exteriors, is not exclusive to this MPV. The dashboard layout takes quite a lot of its inspiration from the one which we see on the current generation Maruti Dzire.

The colour scheme is dual-tone, of black and beige. In addition to this, there are wooden inserts which add a bit of flair to the cabin. The upholstery, just like the Indonesian spec Ertiga, will be beige in colour.

In terms of the feature list, one of the major highlights is going to be the Smart play infotainment system. This touchscreen system offers mobile phone connectivity through Apple Car Play and Android Auto along with Mirror link connectivity. Other than this, you can expect the cabin to get several other utility storage spaces. The current top-end variant of the Maruti Ertiga, in itself, quite features loaded.

In addition to the equipment list, the 2018 Maruti Ertiga will also score high in terms of safety features. As standard, you can expect it to get dual-airbags along with ABS, EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts and rear parking sensors.

As mentioned before, the 2018 Maruti Ertiga will get a new petrol engine. This is a 1.5-litre, K15B motor which is capable of churning out 105 BHP along with 138 Nm of peak torque. With the help of the SHVs mild-hybrid system, expect the fuel-efficiency figures to be quite impressive.

The diesel derivative will continue to come with the 1.3-litre, DDiS Motor. This engine is capable of churning out 88 BHP along with 200 Nm of peak torque. This too will feature the SHVS mild-hybrid technology. Hence mileage number will be close to 27 km/l.

The prices of the 2018 Maruti Ertiga will stay in the same range as they do now. Though you can expect them to increase slightly due to the additional features and safety kit. At the moment, the Maruti Ertiga cost in-between INR 6.16 lakh and INR 10.45 lakh (ex-showroom).
