Ban on private vehicles in Delhi if pollution increases

Delhi Government might stop the use of private transport in Delhi for a few days if the pollution does not decrease. The toxic smog has entered the air of Delhi NCR.

The winter has started to arrive in North India and so has the problem of pollution. Delhi NCR is under severe threat from worsening air quality levels. The toxic smog problems have started from the past few days as even during the afternoon, the bad air can be felt. Following this, the Delhi Government might ban the use of private vehicles for some time. SC has already instructed Delhi Government to seize old diesel and petrol cars in the NCR region.

“Let us hope the air pollution situation in Delhi doesn’t deteriorate but if it turns out to be an emergency, we will have to stop the use of private transport,” said Bhure Lal, chairman of the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) to Reuters.

Every winter, the toxic smog starts coming from the end of October and continues till mid-February. The smog causes various health issues like a headache, breathlessness, irritation in the eye, dry skin and many more.

The government states the main reason for the increasing pollution is because of the North Winds and stubble burning. The stubble burning is caused due to the burning of dry cops and leaves. This process is mainly done by farmers from Haryana and Punjab.

The Government has already banned the use of diesel generator sets and brick kilning. However, despite every method at hand, the government plans to now ban the use of private vehicles for a couple of days. The concentration of pollutants has reached 469 %, which was 299.5 a week ago.

With this, Supreme Court has directed the Delhi Government to seize diesel cars older than 10 years and petrol cars older than 15 years. The vintage cars can no longer ply on roads. The Delhi Government will start a major drive in November to impound these vintage cars.

Delhi Government has been directed to make social media accounts to warn every one before-hand. The Government can even seize the cars from inside the garages as well as from the roads.

In the latest news, the Delhi Government has asked around 113 industries to shut down, because they failed to convert into piped natural gas in allotted time.
