Hyundai Creta rival Volkswagen T-Cross revealed; India launch in 2020

Here is the unveiled India-bound Volkswagen T-Cross SUV. The SUV will launch by 2020 to take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and upcoming Nissan Kicks. T-Cross is the smallest SUV in Volkswagen’s lineup. 

Finally, Volkswagen has taken off the covers and has revealed the T-Cross SUV. In the European markets, T-Cross is placed below the T-ROC SUV, as is now the smallest SUV of the German brand. Volkswagen India has Passat, Polo, Ameo, Vento and Tiguan. It misses out on the developing B-Segment SUVs. To fill the space, Volkswagen is bringing the T-Cross to India. The launch details in India are not out yet, but as per various reports, the T-Cross will come to India by 2020. Read more about the T-Cross here.

The Volkswagen T-Cross gets a sharp styling cue, similar to the T-Roc. In the front, it gets a thin LED strip inside the projector headlamps cover. The front grille remains similar to other models with the trademark Volkswagen logo in the centre. The rectangularly shaped fog lamps add up to the sporty looks.

From the side, the Volkswagen T-Cross looks more like the elder T-Roc. At the rear, it gets a distinctive line running between the C-Shaped headlamps, covering the whole width. The ‘T-Cross’ inscription falls below the license plate. The new set of alloy wheels are 16-inches, which can be upgraded to 17-inch alloy wheels with the sporty ‘R-line’ package.

The feature highlight includes a fully digital instrument cluster with Volkswagen Active Info Display. Safety features onboard will include City Emergency brake, Lane Assist, Hill start and descent control, Pedestrian Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise control and Blind Spot Detection.

Globally, the Volkswagen T-Cross will come with options of 2 petrol engines and a diesel engine. A 1.5 Litre TDI diesel engine will be offered, which puts out 95 BHP on tap. The two petrol engines will include a 1.0 Litre TSI petrol engine that produces 115 HP and a 1.5 Litre petrol engine as well.

For transmission, the T-Cross will use a 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional 7-speed DSG unit. However, the diesel variant might just come with a 6-speed manual unit.

In India, it might use the engines that come with the Vento. However, they will be BS-VI compliant. The Vento comes with a 1.2 Litre TSI petrol, 1.5 Litre TDI diesel and a 1.6 Litre MPI petrol.

The Volkswagen T-Cross for India will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Nissan Kicks. The prices of the T-Cross might start off from Rs 10 Lakhs up to Rs 15 Lakhs.
