Ford India has today launched the mid-cycle update of the Aspire compact sedan in India. Prices for the new Aspire fall in the range of INR 5.55 to INR 8.49 lakhs. With the launch of the new generation model, the Dzire’s top end variants have gotten pricier. Top of the line Dzire petrol ZXi+ costs Rs. 7.94 lakh while the diesel ZDi+ trim costs Rs. 8.94 lakh. In comparison, the Figo Aspire Titanium+ petrol costs Rs. 7.24 lakh while Titanium+ diesel costs Rs. 8.14 lakh. That is a difference of almost a lakh! The Maruti Dzire petrol variant comes with a 1.2-litre VVT engine. This motor is capable of producing 83 BHp of power along with 115 Nm of peak torque. The diesel derivative gets a 1.3-litre unit which produces74 BHP along with 190 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come as standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is a 5-speed AMT unit also on offer in select variants.
The Ford Aspire comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. This new DRAGON series motor is good for 94 BHP of power along with 120 NM of peak torque. The diesel derivative, on the other hand, comes with a 1.5-litre unit. This engine is capable of churning out 99 BHP of power along with 215 Nm of peak torque. As standard both the engines gets a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is good for 110 BHP and 136 Nm of peak torque, comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The new 2017 Dzire is lighter than the car it replaces. So, it offers better mileage, which means claimed fuel efficiency figures of the Dzire are better than the Aspire.

The new Dzire gets a long list of features. In comparison, the Aspire misses out on a kit like a touchscreen infotainment system, LED DRLs, LED Projector headlamps, keyless entry and push-button start. However, the top end variants of the Dzire carrying all the aforementioned features will be more expensive than the Aspire’s top end trims. Also, the Aspire is the only car in its segment that offers up to 6 airbags. Ford also offers the Titanium trims of the Aspire with nifty features like Ford Sync, MyKey.

New 2017 Maruti Dzire vs Ford Aspire- Design Comparison
The new Maruti Dzire sports an all-new look. Its front end resembles the upcoming Swift, but Maruti has done enough to set them apart. The overall design is much more proportional than before making the new Dzire look a lot more sedan-like. Highlights include a chrome polygonal grille up front, LED projector headlamps with LED DRL, 15-inch dual tone alloys and Tail lamps with LED detailing. We really like the way the Ford Aspire has been styled. It is certainly one of the better-looking compact sedans on sale in India right now. The nose is quite easily one of the most attractive bits of the Aspire.
On the inside too, the Dzire bears an all-new design. You get a very sporty flat bottom steering wheel along with a centrally mounted 7-inch touchscreen. It is also more spacious now and offer more rear legroom and a bigger boot. The Aspire’s features a smart looking dashboard. While it may not come with a touchscreen yet, Titanium trim gets a very nifty smartphone dock.

The Aspire is strong in multiple areas such as ride and handling, design, performance from the diesel. However, the Dzire has always been a very popular product. The new generation is better in almost every aspect.
- Price – While the entry level trims of the Dzire cost almost the same as the Aspire’s, it’s top end trims are costlier thanks to a longer list of features.
- Specifications – Aspire’s 1.5 L diesel much better than the 1.3 L unit the Dzire uses in terms of performance. However, Dzire petrol and diesel both get variants with an automatic transmission. While the only variant with an auto box the Aspire gets comes with a 1.5 L petrol with a 6-speed DCT.
- Features – Maruti Dzire is more feature rich than the Ford Aspire. However, the Aspire does score higher in terms of safety as it comes with 6 airbags.
- Design – The new Dzire certainly looks better than before and looks more upmarket too. Aspire is one of the best looking compact sedans on sale right now.
