Renault KWID Electric K-ZE unveiled at Paris Motor Show- India launch logical

Renault Kwid Electric Vehicle KZ-E has been unveiled at Paris Motor Show. First, it will launch in China, as the demand for EVs there is quite high. The India launch is not expected to happen soon enough.

At the ongoing Paris Motor Show, Renault has unveiled an all-electric version of the Kwid hatchback. The K-ZE concept car has been unveiled. The technical details are not out yet, but Renault claims that the Electric Kwid comes with a driving range of up to 250 kms. However, as Renault says, it is not going to come to India soon enough. First, it will launch in the Chinese market soon. After a couple of years, when the EV demand is developing in India, Renault might launch the EV. The Renault Kwid Electric will be one of the cheapest electric cars.

The charging point is located at the front fender of the car.

The Renault Kwid Electric looks identical to the current Kwid in India. Noticeable changes include a new set of alloy wheels, a sleeker headlamp, a revised grille and a subtle blue-white dual tone colour scheme.

There are no details on the interiors of the Renault Kwid Electric as well. Renault says that it gets Rear Parking sensors, a rear parking camera, and a touchscreen infotainment system.

Carlos Ghosn, Chairman, and CEO of Groupe Renault has commented on this to Autocar India. He says, “It would logically one day make it to India as the platform, which is based in China, can be transferred easily to India and also because the Indian Prime Minister wants electric cars in the market.”

He also added, “It doesn’t mean the Kwid electric will not go to India but I’m just saying I’ll go where the market is and for the moment, China is the most promising market for EVs.”

In India, the development of EVs are happening, but at a very slow rate. Till 2021, many EVs will be launched in India. The government has taken certain initiatives to encourage buying Electric Vehicles, however still the EVs are expensive.
