The Honda City Hybrid variant is currently in the development stages. An all-electric car from Honda is coming to India in 2023-24, could be a B-segment SUV!
The next-generation Honda City is likely to make its global debut sometime during the second half of 2019. Subsequently, this latest iteration of the C-segment sedan will reach Indian shores by the 2019 year end or early 2020. The interesting thing to note here is that in addition to BS-VI complaint engines, this fifth generation iteration of the Honda City is likely to get a hybrid variant as well.
Honda Cars India is planning to launch a strong offensive with its electric and hybrid vehicle portfolio in India. According to a report published in ET Auto, the Japanese automaker will launch an all-electric vehicle in India by 2023-24. This all-electric vehicle will be a mass-market product. Furthermore, the reports state that it could very well be a B-segment SUV. Unlike before, Honda does not intend to wait and play catch up with the competition when it comes to electric vehicles in India.

Coming back to the Honda City (Read More), the hybrid variant of this c-segment sedan is likely to come with its petrol powertrain. The next-generation iteration is going to come with BS-VI complaint 1.5-litre i-VTEC and 1.5-litre i-DTEC engines. The possibility of a diesel hybrid cannot be ruled out as well. There were speculations that the next-generation Honda City might also come with an automatic gearbox with the diesel engine.
The next-generation Honda City, in addition to an all-new powertrain, will get a completely redesigned exterior. Honda has given us some of the sleekest designs in the recent past and hence something similar is expected from the new City as well. Reports state that the design will take its inspiration from the insight prototype.

Recent iterations of the Honda City have been criticized for somewhat losing the charm in comparison to what the older generations offered. With Honda resorting to its original philosophy, expect the next-gen City to be quite an impressive product.
Talking about electric and hybrid vehicles in India, Honda is not the only manufacturer which has plans to launch green vehicles. Country’s leading automotive brands, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have already announced their plans for electrification. In addition to this, Tata Motors and Mahindra are too in a race to bring in electric vehicles.
