According to Volkswagen’s India 2.0 strategy, its subsidiary Skoda will spearhead the German automaker’s operation in our country. Part of its future strategy for India, Skoda is soon going to introduce an all-new compact SUV (Skoda Kosmiq) in our market.
Based on Volkswagen’s MQB-A0 platform, this compact SUV will fall in the same segment as that of the Hyundai Creta.
Consequently, prices are expected to fall in the range of INR 9 lakh to INR 15 lakh.
Going by recent media reports, it has come to light that this new compact SUV from Skoda could be named as the Kosmiq.
The Skoda Kosmiq will share its platform with the Volkswagen T-Cross. The T-Cross is yet another compact SUV which is set to launch in India in the same price bracket at the Skoda’s offering.
Media reports suggest that Skoda will showcase this all-new compact SUV at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019.
Consequently, its production for the European markets is going to commence sometime during the month of April 2019.
It will take a little bit more time for the Skoda Kosmiq to make its way to the Indian shores.
We are expecting the Volkswagen owned Czech automaker to launch this compact SUV in India sometime during the first half of 2020.

Though the details regarding the exterior and interior design of the Kosmiq are still a mystery.
What we can confirm you for sure is that this SUV will take its design inspiration from the Skoda’s Vision X SUV.
The Skoda Kosmiq for the Indian market is going to be slightly longer in comparison to the European spec model.

It will share its engine specifications with the Volkswagen’s T-Cross compact SUV. Hence, we are expecting it to launch in India with two petrol and one diesel engine option.
The line-up will include a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine, a 1.5-litre TSI Evo petrol engine and a 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine.
The Skoda Kosmiq will go on sale in both a manual and an automatic gearbox in its line-up.
To compete in the compact SUV segment in India, Skoda’s new compact SUV has to face competition from the likes of Hyundai Creta. The latter being a segment leader.
And by the time the Skoda Kosmiq comes to India, Hyundai is planning to launch a second-generation iteration of the Creta in India. With this upgrade, in addition to a change in its design and features, the Creta is also going to gain an extra row of seats.
