Tata Harrier infotainment system not sourced from HARMAN- Report

Tata Harrier infotainment system will not be sourced from Harman. Instead, it will get a Visteon unit also used in Jaguar and Land Rover products. 

It seems that the Tata Harrier’s (Read More) infotainment system will not be sourced from Harman. The homegrown automaker’s upcoming flagship SUV instead is going to employ a Visteon sourced unit. Visteon is the supplier for multimedia systems for Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover and several other vehicles sold internationally.

A report published in Autocar India states that the reason for not using Harman infotainment system and instead Visteon units are because of the latter’s superior performance and better usability.

Tata Harrier infotainment system will be an 8.8-inch touchscreen system. It is going to support connectivity through Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Mirror link. In addition to this, it will also get satellite navigation and also double up as the screen for the rear parking camera. The important thing to note here is that the Harrier will get a sound system sourced from Harman Kardon only.

The Tata Harrier SUV is going to launch in India during the month of January next year. The homegrown automaker recently revealed the exterior design of this SUV after a series of teasers. What is commendable to note here is that the production-ready version looks almost identical to the concept form. Something which was promised by Tata Motors at the unveiling of the H5X concept at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Tata Harrier infotainment system is not the only thing that it shares with a JLR product. Its OMEGA platform derived out of the D8 architecture used on the previous generation of the Land Rover Discovery.

Apart from a premium infotainment system, the Tata Harrier is also going to feature several other premium attributes. For instance, expect it to come with leather upholstery, dual zone climate control, auto dimmings inside rearview mirror, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers among other features.

The Tata Harrier, when goes on sale in January is going to get a 2.0litre diesel engine. This engine is sourced from Fiat. It is capable of generation 140 BHP along with 350 Nm of peak torque. At the time of launch, there will be a 6speed manual gearbox on offer. A 9-speed automatic gearbox will join the line-up at a later stage with the 7-seater variant. There is no word on a petrol variant as of yet.

Recent speculations suggest that the prices of the Harrier will fall in the range of INR 13 lakh to 18 lakh. With this, the Harrier will be slightly cheaper than the immediate competition i.e. the Jeep Compass. Other than this, it will also go against the likes of Mahindra XUV5OO.
