Volkswagen Polo facelift is likely to debut in India in 2019, followed by a new generation in 2020. The facelift might get a new 1.0 Litre TSI engine, which will be a localized engine.
Volkswagen Polo received a facelift back in 2014, which saw very minor changes. The facelift was global, which came to the Indian markets as well.
Earlier, we reported that the next-generation Volkswagen Polo is most likely to enter the Indian market in 2020. The next-gen will get new features and a styling cues similar to the Volkswagen Golf.
Now, fresh reports suggest that Volkswagen will introduce a facelift to Polo in 2019. It will most likely get a new petrol engine.
The next-gen Polo was launched last year in Germany and is on sale in the international markets. However, India still lives with the fifth-generation Polo.

We believe that the development of BS-6 engines and implementation of safety norms might have delayed the India launch.
Volkswagen Polo facelift will most likely get a new 1.0 Litre TSI engine. It currently uses the 1.0-Litre MPI engine. Its hot version, Polo GT, gets a 1.2 Litre TSI engine.
The 1.0-litre TSI engine will roughly produce around 90 BHP and 150 Nm of peak torque. The figures have not been revealed yet. On the other hand, the MPI engine puts out 75 BHP and 95 Nm of peak torque.
Another set of reports suggest that Volkswagen Polo and Polo GT can be differentiated with the upcoming facelift. There would be major differences between both the models. Polo GT is a hot-hatchback.

The difference between both the models includes a different spoiler, wraparound for ORVMs, front grille and tailgate. As said, the engines are also different and Polo GT uses a bigger capacity engine. Polo GT comes mated with a 7-speed DSG transmission as standard fitment.
Polo GT also uses a 1.5 Litre TDI diesel engine, which also comes in the regular Polo. It comes mated to a standard 5-speed manual gearbox.
The new Polo GT will sport a revised front grille, distinctive silhouette, new set of alloy wheels, side skirts and LED lighting. The engine and other mechanicals will remain the same.
Volkswagen Polo GT already offers top-of-the-line features including cruise control, auto-AC, rain-sensing wipers and dual-beam halogen headlamps.
Safety features onboard include ESP, ABS, Hill-hold control and Dual Front Airbags. Also, it is amongst the safest hatchbacks in India as per its NCAP crash tests.

Polo GT comes at a price tag of Rs 9.39 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Volkswagen Polo goes up against Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. Polo GT’s competitor list also includes a couple of hatchbacks like Fiat Abarth Punto, Maruti Baleno RS and recently launched, Tiago JTP.
