Around 50% of the scooter buyers go for Honda Activa. Year after year, it has maintained its position as the best-selling scooter in India. The first Activa was introduced in India 18 years back.
The latest iteration, Honda Activa 5G has received many updates. It now comes with LED Headlamp, Digital Analogue Display Meter, Mobile charging socket and 4-in-1 Lock with seat opening switch as highlights.
However, besides the plain simple look and similar design from the past decade, it still has its own plus points. It also misses out on an optional disc brake and front telescopic suspension.
Its biggest competitor is TVS Jupiter. Actually, Honda Activa competes with every 110cc scooter in India.

Honda Activa 5G – Design
Simplicity at its best. Activa since its second generation has carried out the same type of body with some added cosmetic changes. In the front, it gets headlamps flanked by turn indicators positioned on the handle of the scooter. It also gets two-air fenders on the front side of the body. Activa has a full metal body, making it somewhat stronger than Aviator and Dio. It uses the same old suspension, which has been used throughout all the generations. On the side of the body, it gets an Activa 5G logo embedded on it. The exhaust muffler on the side looks a bit tacky and outdated though. On the rear side of the body, it gets a back handle for the pillion rider. Overall, the bike looks simple with no-show and no styling elements. It mainly sells on the brand name and its great reliability.

Honda Activa 5G – Competition
Currently, Honda Activa 5G competes with Hero Maestro Edge, Yamaha Fascino and TVS Jupiter. Maestro Edge comes with a fresh urban body unlike the Activa and does look good with its black alloy wheels. However, Maestro delivers a mileage of only 53 KMPL and does not offer features that Activa offers. Maestro misses out on a mobile charging socket, LED headlamps and the Digital-Analog Speedometer. Yamaha Fascino looks like some fancy Italian scooter due to its round handle and styling elements. Fascino, like Maestro, offers fewer features than Activa. It looks fancy though. One good thing about Fascino is that it delivers a claimed mileage of 66 KMPL and it offers a bigger 21 Litres of storage space.
Lastly, TVS Jupiter is a tough competitor because of their brand names. Jupiter falls in the same price, delivers a little more mileage and mainly gets an optional Disc brake in one of its variants. Jupiter, however, gives a passing light switch, which some people consider. On the other hand, like the other two competitors, it also misses out on some of the features. Indirectly, Activa competes with all gearless scooters, including the 125 CC scooters as it is the highest selling one. Following high sales of Activa 110 CC, Honda has also launched the lighter and cheaper Activa i and Activa 125. The Activa 125 offers a more powerful engine with some more features. On the other hand, Activa i is lighter than Activa and is suitable for women and teenagers.
