In order to take a slice out of the success pie of the compact SUV Hyundai Creta, Jeep Renegade, the American automaker’s mass-market product is expected to make its debut in India soon.
Jeep India has already confirmed that they are going to launch two new compact utility vehicle in the Indian market. After the Renegade, it plans to debut another SUV which is essentially going to compete in the Sub-4-meter segment in India.

This Jeep SUV range in international market starts at around $18,000, which translates to about INR 12 lakhs. With Jeep’s production facility in India up and running, the entire production of this vehicle will happen in India. It could have a starting price of around Rs. 9 lakh for the base petrol variant.

It has been spotted testing on Indian roads on multiple occasions. Initial reports suggested Jeep was merely using it to test the platform or engines for future products.
However, according to some recent reports, Jeep is evaluating this Jeep SUV for India and will launch it here by in either around December 2018 or first half of 2019.

Jeep Renegade India- Engine Specifications
Internationally, the Jeep Renegade is on sale with petrol and Diesel engines. In India, the upcoming cheapest Jeep SUV will share its engines with the Compass. This will include the 2.0-litre Multijet turbo Diesel and the 1.4-litre T-Jet turbo petrol unit.
India might even get the 1.6-litre Multijet unit that powers the S-Cross. This engine outputs a max. power of 118 BHP and a peak torque of 320 Nm. The top-end model of this Jeep will even offer a 4WD (four-wheel-drive) Active Drive system.
Jeep Renegade India- Mileage
We are expecting the Renegade to offer a fuel-efficiency figure of close to 16 km/l in city use. While for the highway, this compact SUV should deliver close to 22 Km/l of mileage. This will, in turn, take the SUV’s average mileage figure to 20 km/l.

Dimensionally, the 2018 iteration of this compact SUV measures 4,232 mm in length, 1,887 mm width and 1,689 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,570 mm. While the boot capacity stands at 524-litres.

Jeep Renegade India- Exterior Design
The Renegade borrows plenty of design features from its siblings. It gets Jeep’s signature seven-slot front grille along with the squarish box-design.
You also get circular headlights, boxed out wheel arches, squarish tail-lamps and prominent body cladding all around. There are modern design touches too, including the roof-rails, the glass-area on the sides and the rear.
The Jeep Renegade is not a full-fledged SUV, so do not expect it to go rock crawling or mud bogging or dune-bashing. It will get an AWD drive system which can detect road surfaces and adjust torque sent to all wheels for best grip in different situations, but the vehicle ride height restricts it to mild off-roading at best.

Jeep Renegade India- Interior Design
On the inside, you get a Uconnect infotainment system inside the car which gets a 5-inch or a 6.5-inch touchscreen display depending upon the region.
The driver gets a 7-inch display unit which can be configured and the same will double up as an instrument cluster as well. You get a panoramic sunroof and the SUV will get a slew of customisation options as well for the accessories. How much of it makes it to the Indian market remains to be seen.
We expect the India-spec model to get a more conventional analogue dial set up for the instrument console. Also, the panoramic sunroof might not make it to India. There is no 7 seater version, not even abroad. Much like the Compass, even the Renegade will offer 5 seats only.
