The Mahindra XUV is based on the global spec SsangYong Tivoli compact SUV. With this vehicle’s project in its final stages, we expect it to launch in India sometime during the first half of 2019.
It is going to launch in India with both petrol as well as diesel engines. Both these engines are developed in-house by Mahindra. And later will be shared with Ford for use in the next-generation EcoSport.
Upon launch, the Mahindra XUV 300 is going to compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport.
Mahindra XUV 300- Launch Date
Launch Date | First Half 2019 |
For the fiscal year 2018, Mahindra has planned to launch three all-new products in the Indian market. The first one to make its debut was the Pininfarina designed MPV, Marazzo. Following it soon afterwards was the SsangYong Rexton G4 based SUV, Mahindra’s new flagship, the Alturas G4.
The launch of the Alturas G4 marks the end of 2018 for Mahindra. Consequently, we expect the homegrown automaker to launch the XU 300 sometime during the first half of 2019.
Mahindra XUV 300- Price in India
Minimum Price | Rs 7.5 |
Maximum Price | Rs 11 Lakh |
The XUV300 will be positioned somewhere above the TUV300 and close to the Scorpio. Prices of the new model are likely to start around Rs 7.5 lakh mark.
The top-end model could cost almost Rs 11 lakh on road. It’s noteworthy that Mahindra has been losing out to fresher competition in most of the below-12 lakhs SUV segments. The Scorpio, which was was the largest selling SUV in India, has been facing the heat from fresher rivals like the Creta.

While Mahindra’s constant efforts to update the Scorpio have helped to an extent, the need of the hour is a fresh model that can beat the Creta at its own game.
Mahindra XUV 300- Engine Specifications
Engine | 1.2-litre TGDI Petrol, 1.5-litre mHawk100 Diesel |
Max. Power | 100 BHP/123 BHP |
Peak Torque | 150 Nm/300 Nm |

The Creta, which will be the biggest rival of the XUV300, offers excellent Petrol and Diesel engine options. Mahindra has so far been unable to come up with a decent petrol motor.
While most SUV buyers like to put their money on the oil-burners, there’s still a sizable lot that prefers the refinement and smoothness of a Petrol engine. And this is where the XUV 300 will be right up there with its competition. The new compact SUV will go on sale with both Petrol and Diesel engines.

Powering the new 2018 Mahindra XUV 300 will be an all-new 1.2-litre Turbocharged Petrol engine that is being developed by Mahindra and Ssangyong. This engine will also power some other Mahindra cars.
So far, Mahindra has been unable to deliver a good petrol engine. All this looks set to change with the launch of the XUV300. The Diesel engine for the upcoming Mahindra compact SUV could be the same 1.5-litre unit that powers the Marazzo. The petrol engine for the XUV300 will be a 1.5-litre TGDI that is being developed by Mahindra and Ssangyong.
This modern direct-injection petrol engine is likely to output at least 100 BHP and 150 Nm. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed Manual and a 6-speed Automatic.

Mahindra XUV 300- Mileage
Petrol Mileage | 16-17 KMPL |
Minimum Mileage | 21-22 KMPL |
The Petrol engine for the XUV 300 will be a really fuel efficient unit. It’s likely to deliver a max. mileage of around 16-17 KMPL. The Diesel engine, being the same as the one powering the TUV, will offer around 22 KMPL of peak average mileage.
Official data will be out closer to the launch but it’s pretty much for sure that the upcoming Mahindra small SUV will deliver high fuel efficiency. Mahindra understands the psyche of an average Indian car buyer.

Mahindra XUV 300- Exteriors Review
Like we said, underpinning the upcoming small SUV will be the SsangYong’s X100 platform. This is the same platform that also underpins the Tivoli. The XUV300 could share even some design cues with the Tivoli.
That said, the two won’t look exactly like each other and the resemblance will be limited to certain bits only. The upcoming Mahindra will also take some design inspiration from the XUV500.
This will be done to maintain a family look and benefit from the high appeal of the XUV500. The new SUV from Mahindra will look really stylish and even sleeker than the XUV500. It will have projector headlamps with DRLs, a feature that helped the XUV500 gran a lot of attention.
Mahindra XUV 300- Interiors Review
The interior will be a reflection of the exterior. It will be modern and will be high on style. It’s likely to be spacious enough and will have many modern comforts and convenience features.
The SUV is sure to get a modern infotainment unit with support for Apple Car Play and Android Auto. There will be a touchscreen interface. Other than this, the features list will include a multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, leather upholstery, electric ORVMs, keyless entry and push-button start.
Mahindra XUV 300- Competition
- Hyundai Creta
- Renault Duster
- Maruti S-Cross
- Nissan Terrano
- Nissan Kicks (upcoming)
The upcoming Mahindra small SUV will mainly rival all the above models. Of these, out-performing the Hyundai Creta on the sales charts will be the biggest challenge.
Also, with the new Nissan Kicks headed to India, the XUV300 will have another world-class rival. Being a 5-seater, the new SUV won’t really eat into the sales of its older sibling, the Scorpio.
