Fresh images of Royal Enfield Scrambler 500 have surfaced up. This time it has been spotted testing on the roads with the badging of Classic 500. It is rumoured to launch in India in 2019.
Royal Enfield Scrambler 500 based on Classic 500 seems a bit weird to look. The fresh images show it testing on road with a ‘TN’ number plate.
It looks like a prototype with very rough finishing and minimum reworked design. There are chances that it could be testing the new BS-6 engines.
Back in 2009, Royal Enfield introduced ‘Trials’ variant, which was based on the Bullet Electra EFI. Trials came with the same set of additional equipment, which made it a Scrambler motorcycle.
Before this, there were no such rumours from Royal Enfield about this Scrambler. So, this comes as a surprise because recently RE stated that it would not be introducing any new bikes soon because of the upcoming emission norms.
As we see the spy images, the spotted test mule gets a huge upswept exhaust muffler. Classic 500 offers one as an option, but it is a lot smaller than the one of this test mule. Reports say that it might still use a BS-IV compliant engine.

Royal Enfield Scrambler 500 gets an off-road tire setup, a revised seating setup, a huge carrier at the back and rubber gaiters on the conventional telescopic forks. At the rear, the fender has also been raised with a longer travel, ideal for off-roading.
The spotted Scrambler also gets front and rear disc brakes. Since it is a Scrambler, there are chances of it getting a switchable ABS setup. Switchable ABS comes in off-roading and Scrambler bikes.
Royal Enfield Scrambler 500 will continue with the same mechanicals that power the Classic 500. It will use the 499cc air-cooled fuel injected engine, that puts out 27 BHP at 5250 RPM and 41.3 Nm of peak torque at 4000 RPM. It will be paired with a 5-speed transmission itself.

Scrambler 500 will continue with the same suspension setup – Monoshock absorbers with gas-charged canisters at the back and Telescopic forks up front. We expect even the switches and parts to be carried over from Classic 500.
We expect a pricing range of around Rs 1.9 Lakhs. If it comes, it might be placed at par or a bit higher in price than the RE Himalayan, which retails at Rs 1.81 Lakhs.
For competition purposes, it will be the cheapest Scrambler in town. However, Jawa Motorcycles teased one in their sketches.

So we believe, even Jawa is planning to launch a low-priced Scrambler. Both the upcoming motorcycles will compete against each other, also in a very similar price range.
