Engine

As revealed earlier, Tata Harrier will get a 2.0 Litre KYROTEC diesel engine. It produces 140 BHP and 350 Nm of peak torque. For transmission purposes, it uses a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The engine is a rebadged version of Fiat 2.0 Litre Multijet engine but its gains Variable Geometry Turbocharger. VGT system helps in delivering generous torque at the lower and mid-ranges.

There is no automatic transmission unit available as of now. Neither is this SUV available with a 4×4 drivetrain. Both of these are going to come at the time of the launch of the 7-seater iteration.

Tata Harrier Interior

Interiors

Tata Harrier looks very plush and rich from the inside, a lot better than Nexon and Hexa. Inside the cabin, Harrier gets a Black coloured dashboard theme and oak wood finish on the dashboard. Silver accents running below the dashboard completes the upmarket touch.

It gets quilted Nappa Leather seats with some leather finishes on the door handles. The steering wheel and gear knob also get leather wrapping.

Exteriors

It looks as rich as on the outside, as on the inside. Tata’s new honeycomb mesh grille makes the SUV look big and premium, with the LED DRLs in it. The headlamps are placed on either side of the grille in the housing cover that also has the front fog lamps.

To show its built as a giant SUV, it gets black body cladding around the body doubled up with skid plates at the front and rear. The high wheel arches make it look dominating on the road.

At the derriere, it gets large wraparound LED tail lamps with a glossy line flowing between the tail lights. Tata Harrier completes its looks with the silver chrome Harrier logo on the boot.

Dimensions

Length 4598mm
Width 1894mm
Height 1706mm
Ground Clearance 205mm

Competition

Lastly, competition is what matters a lot. Harrier receives competition from Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV 500 and Hyundai Creta.

For the Jeep Compass, you will have to stretch out a bit extra. But the size and specs put it in the same league. Compass offers more off-roading features and dynamics than Harrier.

XUV 500 fits as an ideal competitor, because of a similar pricing. XUV 500 also comes with a similar feature list with an exception of Electric Sunroof, which Harrier does not get. It also offers AWD powertrain in the top-end variant.

Hyundai Creta falls a bit short in the pricing range when compared to Tata Harrier. Creta also offers a similar feature list, but some additional segment first features to give it an edge.
