A prototype SUV-coupe from Geely-owned Lynk & Co has been spied during winter testing in Germany. The car maker is continuing its efforts to expand outside of China, preparing for its forthcoming launch across Europe and the USA from 2020.
The styling of the prototype bears more than a passing resemblance to the firm’s first SUV, the 01; the headlight positioning and front end are largely carried over. However, from that point, the similarities end where the roofline begins to curve gently towards the subtle boot spoiler.
With the rise in popularity for SUV-coupes, first seen with the BMW X4, it’s little surprise a new car maker is looking to tap into growing car markets.
Sharing electrical technology, safety systems and engine options with the Volvo XC40, we expect the Lynk & Co SUV-coupe to be based on the CMA platform. That also means Volvo’s 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol, which is also available as a plug-in hybrid, should be carried over to the model.
Lynk & Co’s current model offering consists of three cars: the 01 SUV, 02 compact crossover and the 03 saloon. These existing models are expected to be joined by the new SUV-coupe as well as a new hatchback and a larger SUV, based on the Volvo XC90 platform.
