The 2019 New York Motor Show is just around the corner. The doors will open to the world’s press on the 17th of April, with the general public being given access two days later. Since 1987, the event has been held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, with the show taking place annually since the turn of the 20th Century.
Generally, the New York Auto Show is geared towards the American market, with V8s, SUVs and pick-up trucks dominating the floor in previous years. This year, however, a broader range of segments will feature, including everything from small, economical saloons to mid-engined sports cars.

New York Motor Show 2019: A-Z
Hyundai
• Hyundai Sonata
• Hyundai Venue
Hyundai has redesigned its Sonata Saloon, adding a range of new tech, a pair of fresh engines and an updated design language which adopts cues from the firm’s 2018 Le Fil Rouge concept. The eighth-generation Sonata won’t be coming to the UK, but the N3 architecture on which it’s based will underpin other, mid-sized Hyundai models, which will.
The Korean firm will also debut a new compact crossover, called the ‘Venue,’ marking the creation of the brand’s new ‘CUV’ segment. According to Hyundai, the CUV segment references trendiness, with the Venue “embodying the characteristics of ‘the place to be.’”
Lincoln
• Lincoln Corsair
Ford’s luxury subsidiary, Lincoln, will unwrap a new SUV at the Manhattan show. Judging by the firm’s teaser image (and the wording of its accompanying blurb) it will be Lincoln’s first attempt at a compact premium SUV. We expect it will sit below the recently-launched Aviator, which debuted at the 2018 Los Angeles Motor Show.
Mercedes
• Mercedes AMG A 35 saloon
• Mercedes GLC Coupe
Mercedes-AMG will debut its new AMG A 35 saloon, marking the second model launched under the brand’s entry-level 35 range. It’s powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol as its cousin, the AMG A 35 hatch, producing 302bhp and 400Nm of torque.
The Stuttgart-based manufacturer has also given its GLC Coupe a mid-life facelift, pulling its styling, engines and technology from the recently-revised GLC SUV. Major updates include a new range of petrol-hybrid powertrains and the addition of Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system. Due to reach the UK later this year, it will act as the sole rival to the BMW X4.
Nissan
• Nissan Performance’s 50th anniversary
Nissan is keeping details of its 2019 New York Auto Show stand under wraps. All we know thus far is that the firm’s ‘Z’ and ‘GTR’ nameplates both celebrate their 50th anniversary this year and, according to this shadowy teaser, Nissan will put together a showcase of both badges’ greatest hits. Whether anything else will feature on the manufacturer’s stand is yet to be confirmed.
Toyota
The new Toyota Yaris has been pegged for reveal at the 2019 New York Auto Show. It’s been built in collaboration with Mazda, sharing its interior, engine and most of its panelling with the current generation Mazda 2 hatchback. This iteration of the Yaris is strictly for the North American market.
