2020 Audi RS4 Avant Packs Quite a Punch for a Small Heart!

The 2020 Audi RS4 Avant is the fifth RS model out of six scheduled for this year and is powered by a 2.9-litre twin turbo V6 engine with 450PS of power.

Audi RS division seems to be on a roll. They have brought out quite a few scintillating machines in the past few months, the last of them being the RS Q3s. Now, Audi has taken the wraps off the 2020 RS4 Avant. Now this is not a completely new car but an RS avant version of the facelifted A4 that was unveiled a while ago. Let’s look at it a bit closely.

This being an RS model, let’s start with what’s under the hood. The previous 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine is gone and in comes a 2.9-litre twin turbo V6 engine. The downsizing shouldn’t be a surprise. The smaller engine has better numbers though. It produces 450PS of power and 600Nm of torque — 6PS and 156Nm more than the V8 unit. By this, the engine is also 32 kgs lighter than the previous heart. It gives a better acceleration time, 0-100 kph coming up now in just 4.1 seconds. The RS4 Avant maxes out at 280kmph with the optional Audi dynamic package.

The 2020 RS4 Avant ofcourse comes with Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive and the engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. You also get Audi’s Drive Select system which lets you alter various parameters of the car like the throttle response, steering and suspension. You can also opt for the Optional Dynamic Ride Control which alters the damper settings based on the road surface and the optional dynamic steering for quicker steering response with the help of ESC during hard cornering.

Addressing the looks, it certainly looks like it means purpose. Its immediately identifiable an as RS car. You also get the signature Audi matrix LED lamps with a large gaping hexagonal grill and massive airdams on either sides, but you could say all RS cars have started looking the same at the face. In profile, the thin five-spoke alloy wheels are what catches your attention most, with the sharp character lines down the sides typical of RS cars. At the rear the RS4 avant gets sleek LED tail lamps and quad exhausts to complete off the look.

Inside, the cabin layout is similar to the regular A4. That means the all digital center console found in bigger RS cars have been gives a miss and thank god for that. However, it does get some RS specific treatment which includes a RS-specific virtual cockpit, steering wheel and MMi infotainment system. The steering wheel also gets a RS button where you can have pre-set drive modes. Other differentiators include sports seats and the stealth red streaks of ambient lighting.
