The new XUV500 will carry a new exterior design, interior layout and is also likely to carry a new diesel engine.
The next-gen Mahindra XUV500 is all set to be seen at the 2020 Auto Expo. Not only the exteriors, the interior layout will be changed but the SUV will also see a new engine update.
Several spy shots of the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 has been surfacing on the internet and the latest one is the video where we noticed a key detail indicating a change in its door handles.
Yes, with the new XUV500, the cheetah claw door handles will be replaced with subtle flush-fitting ones. These are seen on the newer Range Rover models and on Teslas too. In these cars, these handles carry power operated pop out function and it is not clear if this function will fall in the new-gen XUV500 or not.

If these handles come in the XUV500 then not only they will look great but these handles also improve vehicle aerodynamics. The design of the new XUV500 is subtle yet evolving from the ongoing model.
The exteriors feature sharp curves around the body and the front packs a larger grille up front with slimmer headlamp design. The vertically laced daytime running lights seen on the Mahindra XUV300 will also be seen on the new SUV.
The side profile will see a new age alloy wheel design and the tyre size is expected to grow in dimensions to fulfil the overall look of the SUV. The rear profle too will see restyled bumper design, chrome element inserts, larger taillights and among others.
The interiors of the SUV will carry a new dashboard design with better soft touch plastics. Also, the big vehicle will add more technology rich features and is expected to get a new steering wheel too. The seat upholstery will be new and we can expect electric sunroof to be replaced by a panoramic sunroof.

Mechanically, the XUV500 will come with a BS6 compliant diesel and petrol engine. There are reports that there will be a new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine which will replace the 2.2L mHawk unit. It is so because the latter is not as fruitful to be upgraded to BS6.
The new engine is expected to churn out as much as 185 bhp from the current 155 bhp. We expect a significant increase in torque too with the current being limited to 360 Nm. Reports also suggest that the new 2.0-litre diesel engine is 80 kg lighter than the 2.2-litre mHawk.
