Bajaj has finally taken wraps off its first electric two-wheeler offering and its none other than the iconic Chetak making a comeback. Here are five things to know about it.

The iconic “Hamara Bajaj Hamara Chetak” has now made a comeback in India in an electric version. The electric Bajaj Chetak has been unveiled in India, with the proper launch scheduled to happen by January 2020.

Bajaj has clearly stated that the Chetak is a premium scooter and that is denoted by some high-end features. The prices and other remaining details will be revealed at the time of launch. So, here are five highlights you need to know about the new Chetak.

Bajaj-Chetak-Electric

1. Electric Motor and Range

While the battery specifications have not been revealed yet, the electric Bajaj Chetak will use an IP67 rated lithium-ion battery pack, which is unremovable. The Chetak will get a 4kW electric motor, of which the power figures will be revealed later. The real-world riding range on Eco Mode will be 95 kms and the Sport mode will offer 85 kms.

2. Features

The new Chetak is a retro-modern scooter, packed with many premium features. Highlights include alloy wheels, LED headlamps, LED DRLs, keyless start, a fully digital instrument console with Bluetooth connection, CBS, front disc brakes, front apron pocket and reverse mode. You can also change the riding gears and modes on the go.

3. Styling

Styling is one of the most important highlights of the new Chetak, as looks inspired by the original Chetak. The bulbous side fender, the nicely sculpted front and rear portion, retro-styled round headlamps, but all of these with a modern touch. One look at it, and we feel a premium scooter standing in front of us. And this one, like the Vespa, actually looks revived from the old.

4. Deliveries and Price Expectations

The prices have not been revealed yet, but we expect Bajaj to price it around Rs 80,000. The company just came one indication that the prices will be very attractive and competitive. About the deliveries, they will commence by January 2020 after the official launch. As of now, there is no word on the bookings too.

5. Availability

The electric Bajaj Chetak will be first launched in Pune, followed by Bengaluru. Bajaj believed that both of these cities are major hubs for electric mobility. Most of the electric two-wheelers are based out of there itself. Bajaj has not cleared its stand on the launch in other metro cities.
