Future Honda City To Get Three Engine Options – What’s New?

Honda will bring the BS6 compliant diesel engine with the City when it is launched in 2020

We recently revealed about how Honda has filed for a patent for the City hatchback. And we expect that we can hear the news about its production soon from the manufacturer itself. Now new news is that the next-gen Honda City will have three engine options.

One of the new engine options on the fifth-generation Honda City is a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The manufacturer have already started testing the car in Thailand and in the Indian market too.

Up next is the same 1.5-litre, four cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. What’s new is that it will come with the mild hybrid technology that will be seen in the new Jazz, which is scheduled to debut this month. It is expected that Honda will offer a CVT gearbox option with this and a 6-speed manual transmission.

Next in line will be the 1.5-litre, turbocharged diesel engine which is available in the Indian markets. This motor produces 100 bhp on tap and 200 Nm of peak torque. The updated engine is still BS4 compliant but upon its launch in the Indian market, it will come with new BS6 emission norms. As of now, a 6-speed manual transmission is available with this tune and we can expect the introduction of a CVT gearbox.

Now talking a bit of styling, then the new age Honda City will get an overhauled exterior and interior change. Several rendered images tell that it will feature an aggressive design at the front and the face will give a hint of current-gen Amaze and Civic fusion. Also, the alloy wheel design will be new with the updated City.

The interiors will receive new upholstery design, updated technology features and the availability of a larger touchscreen infotainment system. Connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will come on board.

Once launched, it is expected to see a price increase than the ongoing model. It will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Toyota Yaris and the facelifted Hyundai Verna. The latter will come up with a facelift and new engine options in 2020.
