Hyundai Creta Rival Skoda Kamiq To Be Unveiled At 2020 Auto Expo

Skoda Kamiq is expected to come in two petrol and one diesel engine and will BS6 Compliant.

Earlier we told you about the upcoming mid-size SUV from Czech manufacturer, Skoda will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and now the inputs are that Kamiq will make its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The 2020 Skoda Kamiq is based on the India 2.0 project. The company says, the mid-size SUV will be a concept to showcase it to the audience and the launch will follow in mid 2021.

The 5-seater SUV borrows its design inspiration from its sibling Karoq and Kodiaq. The SUV measures 4.2 m in length and has a dropping roofline, flared wheel arches along with C shaped LED taillights. The roof rails above and the split headlight design set up gives the car an attractive look.

Skoda Kamiq is based on the MQB AO IN platform which has been re-engineered for the Indian market. The India-spec model will also come with longer wheelbase thus indicating a spacious cabin with improved knee and legroom.

The car will be heavily localised in India to keep the cost in check. And the model in India will have larger windows and doors unlike the one found in the European markets.

The Skoda Kamiq is expected to carry a 1.5-litre, four cylinder, EVO TSI petrol engine that produces 130 bhp on tap. Also, the lower variants of the SUV could see a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which produces 115 bhp.

The bigger 1.5L engine comes with cylinder deactivation technology which helps in maintaining a good fuel economy. We can also expect a 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine which churns out 115 bhp along with a peak torque of 250 Nm. The manufacturers will introduce the Kamiq with BS6 compliant engines.

Once launched, the Skoda Kamiq will compete with the likes of Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta, MG Hector and recently launched Kia Seltos. The prices for the same will be between Rs 10 lakh for the base trim to Rs 15 lakh for the top end trim. All prices stick to ex-showroom, India).
