Design has always been a talking point of every Lexus and it is no different with this new RX450hL. While the rest of the car looks pretty much similar to the standard RX450h, you can differentiate this model by its extended length. The roof also gets a floating design to reduce the visual bulk. The face continues to be dominated by the huge spindle grille and the striking three-eye L-shaped LED headlamps with daytime running lights that create the signature Lexus arrowhead-shaped illumination.

Speaking on the launch, P B Venugopal, President, Lexus India, said “RX 450hL is a self-charging hybrid electric vehicle that offers luxury, space, quietness, craftsmanship and elevates the senses with every moment of the journey. The improved technology, design and attractive pricing will surely make RX450hL a desirable car for our discerning guests. We take the introduction of the new RX as our continued commitment to the Indian market and a valued addition to our existing line of offerings.”

It comes with self charging capabilities but its looks will still be its highlight.

The Lexus RX450hL is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and its now BS-VI compliant. The V6 Atkinson Cycle engine features Dual VVT-i and advanced D-4S fuel injection system to deliver excellent performance with improved drivability, fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions. The hybrid powertrain also comes with self-charging capabilities.

However, bigger changes have gone in improving the dynamics of the car with better suspension settings and increased body rigidity. The RX uses high tensile strength steel and aluminium in its construction, along with spot welds and body adhesives, laser screw welding and more to improve rigidity. Lexus says that all this has improved overall steering response and ride quality. It also comes with Active Cornering Assist (ACA) and new redesigned shock absorbers with new Friction Control Device (FCD), all of which contribute better cornering and responsiveness.

On the inside, the RX450hL gets theatre-style seating on all three rows that allows for excellent visibility. The biggest highlight has to be the addition of a touchscreen infotainment display as Lexus’s remote touch interface is one of the trickiest to use in the business. Other than that, the dashboard also gets a new phone holder and USB port. The infotainment system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The system also offers voice control via native cloud connection and Lexus Navigation.
