Maruti Suzuki Sales Reports 24.8% Decline in Domestic Sales for September!

While the sales report of Maruti Suzuki still reports a year-on-year decline in sales, numbers are still better than what it was last month and its improving.

Another month has gone by and while sales in the automobile industry hasn’t improved drastically, it sure seems to have improved from the last month. Maruti Suzuki came out with their sales reports for the month of September and this time, they have recorded a decline of 24.8% as compared to sales in September, 2018. While its still a decline, its far better than the 34% drop in year-on-year sales that Maruti recorded in August.

Speaking of the numbers, Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold a total of 1,22,640 units of vehicles in September 2019. This includes 112,500 units in domestic market, 2,952 units of domestic OEM sales and 7,188 units of exports. The entry level hatchback segment that recorded a significant drop of 42%. However, it was the compact sedan segment that saw the biggest decline of a massive 72.5%. Maruti Suzuki sold just 1715 units in September 2019 as compared to 6246 units sold in the same period last year.

The utility segment had seen a growth in the month of August. However, that again went down marginally this month. In August, the utility segment grew by 3.1% while in September, it fell by 0.5%. Total sales were down by 24% as Maruti sold 1,22,640 units total (domestic+ exports) in September 2019 as compared to 1,62,290 units that were sold in the same period last year.

That’s still a sign of some recovery as Maruti Suzuki sold 106,413 units in total (domestic + exports) in August, 2019. That was a drop of 32.7 % from what was sold in August of 2018 where the sales number stood at 158,189 units. Maruti Suzuki recently introduced the XL6 which has contributed some bit to improved sales of the company.

Maruti Suzuki also introduced the S-Presso micro SUV in India yesterday and that being an entry-level car will largely contribute to sales in the coming months. The festive season is also expected to give some boost in sales for the brand. As for sales in between April to September this year, it stood at 6,75,423 units as compared to 9,19,240 units in the same period last year, a drop by 26.5%.
