Mercedes G Class 350d Launched In India At A Price Of ₹ 1.5 Crore

This is the first time a non-AMG variant of the Mercedes G Class is launched in India and the 350d price is about Rs 70 Lakh cheaper than the G63 AMG

Mercedes Benz has finally launched the diesel variant, 350d, of their mammoth G Class in India at a price tag of Rs 1.5 crores. This means one can now afford a G Wagon at a lesser price rather than spending a whopping Rs 2.2 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The India spec Mercedes Benz G 350d gets the same 3.0-litre, in-line, six cylinder engine which is present in the S350d. This motor is BS6 compliant and produces 286 bhp and a peak torque of 600 Nm. Well, its elder sibling, the G63 AMG pushes out a massive 584 bhp on tap and gets a 4.0-litre, twin turbo, V8 engine.

Now, talking about the design of the truck then it misses out on the AMG detailing which is present in the elder sibling. And so is the flared wheel arches which see a miss. The 21-inch alloy wheels are replaced by the 20-inchers on the G350d. The ‘Panamericana grille’ gets replaced by black finished tripe slat grille, revised front bumpers and sees twin exhausts at the rear instead of quad exhausts.

The interiors feature a modern age Mercedes design which gets twin 12.3-inch screens, one for the instrument console and other is a touchscreen infotainment system which is located centrally.

Other bits include leather upholstery, cruise control, push button start, round LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, auto wipers, ambient lighting, three zone climate control and among other features.

This 350d is built on the ladder on frame chassis so it is capable of doing the off-roading. The suspension is handled by double bone wishbone at the front and rigid axle set up at the rear. It gets a ground clearance of 242 mm and 700mm of water wading capacity. It also gets three locking differentials with low range gearbox.

The hardcore SUV has been brought in via Completely Built-Up Unit (CBU) route which allows the manufacturers to bring in 2500 units per year without the need of homologating in India. With a price tag of Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) it competes with Land Rover Defender, Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover Sport.
