The next-gen 2020 Hyundai Creta has been completely overhauled with a new design, new interiors and new engines as well. Take a closer look here.
The Creta has brought great fortunes to Hyundai. It has been the most popular mid-size SUV in its segment and for the right reasons. Hyundai introduced the Creta back in 2015 and from then till February this year, Hyundai has sold more than 5 lakh units of the Creta. And now, there’s the next-gen Hyundai Creta that’s arriving next year and it could be launched in our market as early as February 2020.
The Creta is sold in quite a few countries – its known as the ix25 in China and some other South American markets. The second-gen ix25 has already been unveiled in China and the next-gen Creta is expected to be based on the next-gen ix25 just like the first-gen Creta. Over time, several images of the second-gen ix25 has been doing rounds on the internet, and if you have been wanting to know more about the second-generation of one of Hyundai’s most successful products, then here’s what you can expect.

Now these are the dimensions of the China-Spec ix25 and while most dimensions will largely be the same for the India-spec model, the next-gen Creta could get a higher ground clearance here in India. Regardless of that, the next-gen Creta has grown 30mm in length, 10mm in width but is now shorter by 8mm from the outgoing model. Wheelbase too has increased by 20mm, thus freeing up more space inside.
Exterior Styling
The next-gen Hyundai Creta is a complete departure from what we have known it to be in terms of styling. Yes, it retains its overall proportions and profile but that’s where the similarities end. The face is completely new with a split headlamp design that’s becoming very popular on cars these days. The new Creta follows Hyundai’s latest design language and looks much like a scaled up Hyundai Venue. The hood is flat but the overall design is very rounded off unlike the present Creta’s sharp and upright styling.
The face is dominated by a rather large ‘cascading grille’ which has been finished in black with chrome surrounds. The front bumper also gets a wide faux skid plate with a brushed aluminum look and a pair of fog lights and second turn indicators on either sides. In profile, the car remains largely similar but gets squarish wheel-arches and new alloy wheel designs which look like a larger version of the ones seen on the Venue.
The rear too has been completely changed. It gets a split tail lamp design which looks quite unique. The top portion is a light bar running the width of the car and the lower portion housing the brake lights and turn indicators resemble the main headlamp cluster on the front. The heavily camouflaged test mules spotted in India has shown similar styling cues, although there could be some minor differences in the production-spec model.
Next-Gen 2020 Hyundai Creta Interior Styling
The interiors of the next-gen Creta are completely new as well. The dashboard is adorned by a 10.25 inch portrait style infotainment system display that flows down the center console and it looks quite fascinating indeed. There’s minimalistic use of buttons as even the climate controls have been integrated into the display. There are just a few essential buttons on the center console with a new gear lever and a rotary dial for the drive modes (that is if the India-spec model gets the drive modes). Elsewhere, it gets a new semi-digital instrument cluster and new door panels as well. Just like the exterior, the India-spec model could be little different though.

Next-Gen 2020 Hyundai Creta Powertrain Configurations
The next-gen 2020 Hyundai Creta will be powered by a BS6-compliant, 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. Its the same engine that debuted in the Kia Seltos a couple of months ago and the Seltos and Creta being sister cars, they will be sharing the engines as well. These engines replace the 1.6-Liter petrol and diesel engines that were available with the current-gen Creta.
Hyundai could also be introducing the 1.4-Liter turbo-petrol engine in the next-gen Creta for a sportier variant to take against the Kia Seltos GT Line. Along with this, Hyundai is also likely to introduce a mild-hybrid option on the Creta in India. However, it remains to be seen if Hyundai offers as many engine/gearbox configuration as is offered by Kia in the Seltos.

India Launch and Competition
The next-gen 2020 Hyundai Creta will likely be previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo in February next year and will be launched in Indian market soon after. Like the present-gen Creta, it will face competition from the likes of MG Hector, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur. It will certainly see a premium over its current price but that might not be by a huge margin.
