Next-Gen Honda Jazz Teased Ahead of Debut at Tokyo Motor Show!

The next-gen Honda Jazz features a fresh new design language and will come with a roomier cabin along with a new range of engine options as well.

Honda has released a new teaser of the upcoming next-gen Jazz ahead of its official unveil at the Tokyo Motor Show this month. This will be the forth generation of the Honda Jazz and while the teaser does not reveal much other than the basic silhouette, there are certain things that can be made out from the teaser.

The first thing that’s immediately evident is the new design language of the forth-gen Jazz. The new Jazz appears to be much more rounded and sedate in comparison the current Jazz sold in India. The hood seems to have grown longer and is less angled as well. The headlights are also more rounded and upswept than before and like other Hondas these days, there’s a snub-nosed thick chrome grille as well.

The other noticeable thing evident from the teaser is that the car seems to have grown in its wheelbase but gets shorter overhangs than before. This will essentially free up more space inside but the overall length is still expected to be under 4 meters – quite crucial for our market. Other things that come to notice is that the Jazz gets new cup-shaped DRLs, wrap-around style tail lamp cluster and a shark fin antenna on the roof.

Honda says that the new Jazz has been ‘redesigned with the passenger at its heart’ and promises to ‘raise the bar in terms of comfort and driver enjoyment’. With increased cabin space because of the longer wheelbase and extra width, this could certainly be a strong selling point of the new Jazz. Honda also promises a sportier driving dynamics with the new car.

On that front, the new Jazz will be powered by a two-motor hybrid powertrain. However, whether this setup will be available with the 1.2-litre or 1.5-litre petrol unit is still unknown. What is also unclear is whether Honda will keep a diesel engine option for the Jazz. If Honda updates the iDTEC motor on the next-gen City to BS-VI compliance, it will most likely be offered on the Jazz as well. The 1.2 litre BS6 engine for India is likely to form the mainstay of the Honda range.

Interestingly, the new Jazz will be sharing its underpinnings with the next-gen Honda City. Honda will most likely introduce the new City in India first, sometime in early 2020, and then follow it up this new Jazz later in the year. The Honda Jazz will continue to rival the likes of the Hyundai i20, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and the Volkswagen Polo in the premium hatchback segment.
