One Nation One Fastag Scheme To Start From Dec 1 – Details

We tell you the benefits of Fastag, how to get a Fastag for your four wheeler and how to recharge and finally use the Fastag!

We love the idea of long journeys on highways and cruising at good speeds so we reach our destination on time. But when we have to wait in the long lines to pay at the toll plazas, then most of our valuable time is consumed.

So to ease that, Nitin Gadkari, Minister Of Road, Transport and Highways inaugurated the One Nation, One Fastag scheme. Post-Dec 1, 2019, you can enjoy the perks of not waiting in line and use the RFID tag which is placed on the windshield of your four wheeler and pay the toll tax.

If you visit the highways now also then you will find separate lanes for vehicles having Fastag. This ensures a free flow of traffic at toll plazas and saves time

With the ‘One Nation, One Fastag scheme’, the government aims to promote the cashless system on the highways. This will ensure that you avoid the congestion on the toll booths and save time, fuel and your money.

There will be sensors placed at the toll barriers and it will open up the barricade for consumers using a valid Fastag. Now the question arises is how you will use the Fastag or how you will top up this new cashless tag.

One needs to recharge the Fastag with a minimum amount of Rs 100 through any Credit/Debit cards, NEFT or RTGS or even through Netbanking. Similarly, Paytm which promotes cashless transaction can also be used to avail this facility.

The sensors identify the Radio Frequency Identification Tag. The tag can be recharged online too

Now if you are owning a new car then the tag comes beforehand only and you need not apply for it. But for the owners who are having old cars and need the Fastag for themselves then you can purchase it through any of the authorized banks.

The list for the same includes, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Syndicate Bank, AXIS Bank, IDFC Bank and the State Bank Of India. One can also purchase the tags which are available at toll plazas and through Paytm.

You will, however, need to show some of the legitimate documents and then only you can get a Fastag for your four wheeler. The list includes valid Registration of the Vehicle, Passport size photograph of the owner and lastly any identity card like Driving License, Aadhar card, Voter Id card or Passport.

Fastags are generally non transferable and one Fastag can be used only for one vehicle. That is why the scheme of One Nation, One Fastag is put in here to encourage people to use this cashless facility.

Mr Gadkari also talked about informing the toll operators to start getting the sensors fitted. And further notice will be sent to all of them shortly. We just have to wait and watch on how the importance of Fastag is in the near future.

FASTag is presently operational at about 370 toll plazas across National Highways. The system is inter-operable and the same FASTag can be used across all toll plazas under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme.
