What To Expect From The Premium Maruti WagonR a.k.a The XL5?

Will you pick the XL5 over the popular Maruti WagonR? Or do you think the XL5 will surely excel in the sales report when it is launched? Let’s find out what are the changes we can expect in the XL5

Maruti Suzuki has been the largest carmaker in the country for over a while now but with the slump in the auto industry even they have to suffer. And to overcome their losses, 2019 saw a great share of cars like the new-gen WagonR, the XL6 and lately the S-Presso.

Now, if reports are to be believed then Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce a premium version of their best selling WagonR which will be called as the XL5. Other reports also say that the Maruti XL5 might replace the Ignis when its launched.

So let us take you through some of the highlights that we can expect from the upcoming XL5:

Exteriors

Now, we did mention the term Maruti XL5, earlier, right? Does it ring a bell? Sure, it does. When the manufacturers decided to bring up a beefier version of the Ertiga, the company decided to name it as the XL6. And with its better looks and features, it is picking up a good number of sales each month.

This is a rendered image of the upcoming Maruti XL5. It will be the first car from Maruti to receive a split headlight design just like the Hyundai Venue.

Now the Maruti WagonR XL5 might not carry the beefier look like the XL6, it sure will carry a neat and sporty design distinctive of the plain old WagonR. We have got the spy shots and by the looks of it, the XL5 is expected to receive the split headlight design.

There will be new bumper designs along with the restyled grille up front and the Suzuki badging will be placed in between the grille. Now the WagonR misses out on the alloy wheels but the XL5 will possess one.

The rear profile too will see a reworked taillight design and will see LED treatment. One more noticeable change is the plastic cladding found at the rear bumper. Bumper extensions are also expected at the front which gives the hatchback a sporty look.

Interior and Features

It is expected that the XL5 will come with an all-black theme and contrasting upholstery. The hatchback might receive a rear parking camera, LED projector headlamps and among others.

The Maruti XL5 is expected to receive 15-inch alloy wheels. Maruti WagonR sits on 14-inch steel rims and does not receive alloy wheels in the top trim too

It will continue with the standard safety features like front seat belt reminder, high speed alert system, rear parking sensors, front dual airbags and Antilock Braking System with Electonic Brake Force distribution.

Available Only At Nexa Dealerships

Just like the Maruti XL6, which is a premium version of the Ertiga is sold via Nexa, the same can be expected from the XL5. A premium WagonR which will be available through all Nexa dealerships in the country.

The taillights will get a LED treatment and the rear bumpers will be redesigned to give it a sporty look

Mind you, reports suggest that it might replace the Ignis which will be discontinued due to poor sales. Ignis is articularly sold through Nexa dealerships and the XL5 makes the right fitment for it.

Engine

There won’t be any mechanical changes when the car is launched in the country. It is expected to receive the bigger 1.2-litre engine from WagonR and will not see the 1.0L engine option. The engine will be BS6 compliant.

The power delivery for the bigger engine, K12M, four cylinder is limited to 82 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. Transmission option sticks to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT. The ARAI certified mileage comes at 20.52 km/l. We don’t expect a CNG option in the upcoming hatchback.

Price

There is no slip from the manufacturers about the pricing of the hatchback. All we kow that if this car is launched then it is expected to carry a premium of Rs 50,000 over the regular WagonR. So if expect it to stick between Rs 4.91 lakh for the base trim to Rs 5.89 lakh for the top end trim.
