BS-6 Maruti Ertiga Diesel Spied Testing; Launch Expected In Late 2020

Going by the new spy shots and earlier reports, Maruti is actually considering a BS-6 diesel engine for the Ertiga and other big cars of the company.

The increasing demand for diesel cars has put Maruti in a fix. After it confirmed that there will be no diesel cars in its stable from April 2020, it has now changed its mind. The latest spy shot of BS-6 Maruti Ertiga diesel being tested in India is another indication.

A couple of weeks back, Marut Suzuki officials hinted that diesel engines are still under consideration. A greater proportion of buyers are now preferring diesel cars over petrol, than the situation that was a couple of years ago.

The new spy shot of the BS-6 Maruti Ertiga gets a DDiS badging on the side, indicating that it a diesel variant. Further, a registration document is put on the rear windshield which also mentions that a BS-6 vehicle is being tested.

If our readers remember, recently the S-Cross was spied testing with its old 1.6 Litre DDiS diesel engine. This engine produces 120 BHP and 320 Nm of peak torque. Reports suggest that this engine will be bought to life again and will be equipped in Ertiga, S-Cross and XL6.

The new Ertiga as of now comes with a 1.5 Litre SHVS petrol engine, that produces 104 BHP and 138 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed torque-converter AT.
