Jawa Perak – Five Things You Need To Know About Jawa’s Bobber!

The Jawa Perak is the most affordable bobber styled motorcycle you can buy in India and it certainly looks the part and is powered by a 334cc engtine with 30.4PS of power.

The Jawa Perak wowed everyone when it was first shown in prototype form along with the Jawa and Forty when the brand re-launched themselves in India. Ever since, motorcycle enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for Jawa to finally launch this motorcycle and behold, the same has happened. Jawa launched the Perak in India this week and it is India’s first bobber style motorcycle in this price segment. Its quite an unique offering and deserves to be paid more attention. So here’s five things you need to know about the Jawa Perak.

There’s nothing like it on the Road
This is one head turner of a motorcycle. Typical to bobber styled motorcycles, the Perak gets chopped front and rear fenders and the body panels have a very classy approach. The chassis has also been tweaked in order to accommodate the new wide cage-type swingarm. The production motorcycle also retains the slash-cut exhaust we earlier saw on the pre-production model. The all-black paint scheme with blacked out mechanical parts make it look quite stealthy. The gold accents on the black motorcycle and a single-piece flaoting seat complete the look for a rather sexy looking bobber.

The Perak gets a Seperate Production Line
Since the the brand relaunched in India, Jawa has been struggling to meet the demand for their motorcycles, with waiting periods extending up to nine months or even more for the Jawa and the Forty Two. With one new motorcycle, you’d expect that production number would come down even further, leading to ever increasing waiting periods. However, Jawa had though about this and so they have allocated a completely different production line for the Perak. This Jawa motorcycle is going to arrive to you sooner than you’d expect. Well, let’s hope so.

It gets a bigger Powertrain
The two other Jawa motorcycles already have a very potent powertrain with good amount of power and great refinement. But Jawa thought the Perak could do with more power. Given its uniquness, a little more power will certainly help its case. The engine’s displacement has been bumped from 293cc to 334cc by way of a larger bore. The Perak is thus good for 30.4PS of power and 31Nm of peak torque, which is 3PS and 3Nm more than the other Jawas. The engine is also BS6 compliant and comes mated to a 6-speed transmission.

Take a moment to look at the rear section of this motorcycle. A bobber styled motorycle looks the most authentic with a hard tail wherethe rear wheel looks like it is directly mounted to the frame, giving it a proper old-school look. However, that isn’t very comfortable for the rider. In order to retain that old-school hard tail look but also make it comfortable for the rider, Jawa has neatly positioned the rear monoshock under the seat. Smart engineering. The setup is similar to the one seen on the Triumph Bonneville Bobber. It gets disc brakes at both ends aided by dual-channel ABS.

The Perak is the Most Affordable Bobber in India
Jawa has introduced the Perak at a price of Rs. 1.94 lakhs, ex-showroom. That makes it the most affordable bobber you can buy in India. The next cheapest bobber available in India is the Triumph Bonneville Bobber, which costs Rs 10.28 lakh (ex-showroom India). The Bonneville Bobber is of course powered by a much larger 1200cc liquid-cooled motor that delivers 77PS and 106Nm. However, at its price, the Perak with 334cc and 30.4PS of power, it is no slouch either. The Perak makes for a great way to own a factory custom motorcycle.
