The seven-seater Jeep Compass was slated for arrival in 2020 but now Jeep has pushed it to 2021 to concentrate efforts on a heavily updated Compass facelift slated for 2020.

We had earlier reported that Jeep is planning on a seven-seater version of the Compass SUV and that it could arrive in 2020 in India. If you have been anticipating it, well, your wait just got longer as Jeep has now pushed the plans of the seven-seater SUV (code-named Low-D) to 2021. Jeep will instead focus efforts in bringing out a heavily updated version of the Compass for 2020.

Currently, Jeep Ranjangaon facility is the mother plant for the right-hand-drive Compass and the priority would be to ready the updated versions of the Compass for India and export markets by mid-2020. The Compass is due a major makeover in 2020 which will include major sheet metal changes, a redone cabin and more equipment. In this process, Jeep will also introduce the BS6 versions of the 2.0-litre diesel and 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engines, and will also introduce more diesel-automatic versions.

Coming back to the seven-seater Compass, it will have a lot in common with the updated Compass. And company insiders have said that it will not compromise on the ‘Jeep DNA’ and that it will have genuine off-road capability. The seven-seater Compass will obviously come at a premium over the five-seat Compass. Currently, the standard Compass range tops out at Rs 26.80-27.60 lakh with the Trailhawk variant and we expect the seven-seater Compass to start at this price-point.

When launched in India, the seven-seater Compass will rival the likes of the monocoque-bodied seven-seat SUVs like the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace, Skoda Kodiaq and Honda CR-V, along with full-size ladder-frame models like the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Toyota Fortuner. Jeep also has plans of introducing their own small SUV to take on the highly competitive compact-SUV segment.
