Maruti Suzuki And Toyota Tsusho Working On A Vehicle Dismantling And Recycling Unit

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Tsusho have announced that they are setting up a vehicle dismantling and recycling unit, which will be ready by 2020-21.

Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu India Private Limited (MSTI) is setting up one of its kind vehicle dismantling and recycling unit in India. The unit will be based in Noida and will be definitely built within the 2020-21 fiscal year.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Tsusho have entered into a partnership for this with a 50% share of each company. The Maruti Suzuki-Toyota vehicle recycling unit will basically procure and dismantle End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs). The total capacity of the unit will be 2000 units a month.

So the process starts with MSTI collecting end-of-life vehicles from Maruti Suzuki dealers, other dealers and individuals. Then it will be transferred to the company’s campus in Noida.

After the initial documentation and inspection of the vehicle, there will be a pretreatment and de-pollution of the car. The airbags, oil levels and the batteries will be checked in this process.

Once checked, the car will be dismantled properly and then the processing and segregation of scrap materials will commence. The scrap material will be then shipped to steel mills and smelters. After all, this is done, the documentation and deregistration of the car will be done.

All this will be compliant to the international practices and will go as per the rules of the government. With this whole idea, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Tsusho plan to reduce the waste and scrap materials.

Announcing the initiative Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said“Maruti Suzuki strongly believes in responsible recycling of vehicles after end of its useful life. Through this Joint Venture, MSTI, we aim to promote recycling and support in resource optimization and conservation while using environment friendly systems and processes. Scrapping of older vehicles in a scientific and environment friendly manner will help to reduce pollution and also make the roads safer. A team of experts at MSTI will dismantle the vehicles using international technology and global standards.”
