MG Maxus D90 Spied In India; Will Go Against Fortuner And Endeavour

The recently spied MG Maxus D90 will be the company’s third SUV for India, which is expected to be launched by the end of 2020.

MG Motors has commenced the testing of its upcoming full-size SUV in India. The MG Maxus D90 has been spied testing under heavy camouflage, which will be a rival for the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mahindra Alturas G4.

Maxus is a sister-brand to MG as both of them are owned by SAIC. D90 will be based on a light-truck platform and measures around 5005mm in length, 1932mm in width, 1875mm in height with a wheelbase of 2950mm.

D90 will be a seven-seater SUV which will be placed above the 7-seater Hector. Under the hood, it is likely to get a 2.0 Litre petrol engine, that produces 224 BHP and 360 Nm of peak torque. However, in India, we might see it with the Hector’s 2.0 Litre turbo-diesel engine, that puts out 170 BHP and 350 Nm of peak torque.

Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard with the option of a 6-speed AT. That’s what it gets in the global markets. Just like other SUVs in its competition, the MG Maxus D90 will come with 4X4 drivetrain with a low range transfer case. Driving modes will include Automatic, Economy, Motion, Snow, Sandy, Mud and Rock.

The Maxus D90 that is available in China, gets features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, cooled/heated seats, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera and more.

In terms of safety, the international-spec model gets autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and automatic parking, which may come on the India-spec as well. Six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and Isofix child seat mounts will come as standard.
