Reports say that Volvo XC40 will soon get a petrol engine alongside its existing diesel engine. The launch is likely to happen in this month itself.
Volvo XC40 is the manufacturer’s smallest SUV offering, only available with a diesel engine in India. Fresh reports suggest that the Volvo is launching the XC40 with a petrol engine by next week, that will exist alongside the diesel engine.
The Volvo XC40 petrol is likely to be available in the mid-spec R-Design T4 variant. It is likely to be priced at Rs 39.9 Lakhs (ex-showroom), making it the costliest petrol SUV amongst its rivals.
Under the hood, Volvo XC40 will get a 2.0 Litre turbo-charged petrol engine, that puts out 190 BHP and 300 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The report further states that it would not be available in AWD version and just with Front-Wheel Drive.

When launched in 2018, the XC40 came with a 2.0 Litre turbo-charged diesel engine, that puts out 190 BHP and 400 Nm of peak torque. The same 8-speed AT was used with the diesel unit as well. Reportedly, the diesel variant has been sold out for now and it will be available again by mid-2020.
Features expected onboard include Thor’s Hammer LED headlamps with LED DRLs, electric Panoramic sunroof, Wireless phone charging, Automatic Opening Boot, 9-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Pilot Assist, Harman Kardon music system, Keyless Entry and more.
Safety features on board include Reverse parking sensors with 360 degrees camera, adaptive cruise control, ABS with 8-airbags, Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist and Descent Control, Parking Assist, Volvo’s Radar-based city safety, Oncoming lane mitigation, Blindspot information and Run-off-road mitigation.

The Volvo XC40 rivals the likes of BMW X1, Mercedes Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and the Mini Countryman, which are all priced under Rs 40 Lakhs (Ex-showroom).
