The new generation Mahindra Scorpio will be launched at the 2020 Auto Expo. Here are some things that you can expect from the new SUV.
At the 2020 Auto Expo, Mahindra is going to unveil the new generations of XUV500, Scorpio and Thar along with the BS-6 versions of other models. Models like TUV300 and TUV300 Plus will get a facelift while we may also see the electric KUV 100 in a production-ready form.
Mahindra has started testing the new 2020 Scorpio. The SUV will get a complete makeover, which includes a new platform, new engines and ton of feature upgrades. Going by the spy shots, the shape of the Scorpio is a lot different from its current version.
Ahead of its launch in 2020, here are some things that you can expect from the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio:
1. New Engines
As of now, the mid-spec and top-end variants Mahindra Scorpio comes with a 2.2 Litre mHawk diesel engine. The unit comes in two tunes, which puts out 120 BHP and 280 Nm on mid-spec variants and 140 BHP and 320 Nm of peak torque. With the new Scorpio coming up, Mahindra will replace the existing engine with a newly developed 2.0 Litre turbo-diesel engine. The engine is expected to produce 160 BHP and 350 Nm of peak torque. Reports suggest that a new 2.0 Litre petrol engine might be offered as well.
Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and an AT gearbox as well. While the new 2020 Mahindra Scorpio is believed to come with AWD drivetrain, some reports suggest that it could get 4X4 drivetrain.
2. New Features
The new Scorpio will get many exciting features right from the mid-spec trims. Some of them expected include a new MID, refreshed steering wheel with audio controls, vertical AC vents, new gear knobs, LED projector headlamps, a new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and much more. Most of the features of the Marazzo are likely to be seen on the Scorpio as well.
3. Now More Safer
Because of the revised platform coming on the new Scorpio, it will be more stable and will have lesser body roll. In terms of safety features, it is likely to get front parking sensors, Electronic Braking Distribution, four disc brakes and much more.
4. Bigger In Size
Going by the spy shots and details about the revised platform, the new Scorpio will get a longer wheelbase. As a result, the SUV will be longer than its current version. Also, it is likely to offer more space inside the cabin. Mahindra might ditch the side-facing seats for front-facing seats on the new Scorpio.
5. Prices And Competition
The prices currently start off at Rs 9.99 Lakhs going up to Rs 16.63 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). With all these changes and upgrades, expect the prices to go up by atleast Rs 50,000 for all the variants. It will continue to rival the likes of MG Hector, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and Hyundai Creta.
