The BS-6 complaint Toyota Yaris petrol retains as much power as the BS-4 mill with same gearbox combinations but will be Rs. 10-15k more expensive.
Just three months are left before the BS-6 emission norms kick in from April 2020 and more and more manufacturers manufacturers are lining up their cars to meet the upcoming emission norms. The latest to join this league would be the Toyota Yaris. Toyota will be launching the BS-6 compliant petrol Yaris very soon and here’s all the details you need to know about the BS-6 Toyota Yaris.
The Toyota Yaris continues with its 1.5 liter four cyclinder petrol engine, but has ofcourse been tweaked in order to comply with the emission norms. Usually in the process of getting cleaner, most cars witness a nominal drop in their performance. However, Toyota seems to have worked around that issue and this new BS-6 engine produces 107 bhp at 6,000 rpm which is the same as the BS-4 spec engine. Moreover, transmission options including the 6-speed manual and 7-step CVT auto will also continue unchanged.
The BS-4 petrol engine has an ARAI-rated mileage of 17.1kpl in the manual version and 17.8kpl in the CVT version. Again, with the BS-6 upgrade, most cars usually see a drop in mileage as well and it remains to be seen if its the same for the Yaris as well. What we also do not know is the torque output from the BS-6 1.5L petrol engine. The current engine produces 140 Nm of torque.
Recently, Toyota even updated the Yaris with a mid-life facelift and introduced certain new features and dual-tone paint schemes with new alloy designs as well. The facelift really makes the Yaris much more relevant and up to date in the face of rising competition. Like before, the BS-6 Toyota Yaris will also be offered in four trim levels. Firsntly, there’s the J variant which gets all the essential features such as projector headlamps, height adjustable driver’s seat, remote locking, all four power windows, power adjustable wing mirrors, rear arm rest, seven airbags, ABS, parking sensors, seatbelt reminder and high speed alert system.

With the BS-6 upgrade, we expect the prices to shoot up by Rs. 10,000-15,000.
