Following the success of MG Motors in India, Chinese carmakers are now taking a growing interest to enter the Indian market. Hector’s success has primarily been because of its expansive feature list and dominating size, things that work really well with Indians. Great Wall Motors is based out of Baoding Hebel, around 150km south of Beijing. Great Wall is one of the most successful SUV makers of China and currently, they are scouting for the best location to get a plant running in India. At the Auto Expo 2020, Great Wall will showcase products from its brand Haval. The Haval stand will supposedly have three SUVs – the H4, H6 and H9 – on display at the Auto Expo. A couple of electric cars from sister brand WEY are also likely to be showcased.

The first model that Haval will launch in India in 2021 is the H4. In terms of dimensions, the H4 is larger than the Creta and it has a no-nonsense SUV design. It is smart looking SUV with a clean face and sharp headlamp units. In profile, the SUV is very well proportioned and it somehow reminds you of the Jeep Compass.

The H4 shares its platform with the larger H6, it is 4.4m long, and is built on a substantial 2,660mm wheelbase. It is powered by a 1.5 liter turbo-petrol engine which produces 170 bhp and power is sent only to the front wheels. There’s even an option for a dual-clutch automatic transmission. There’s a smaller 1.3 liter petrol engine option as well. For India, Haval could bring a diesel engine that will possibly be sourced from Fiat.

On the interiors, the dashboard is asymmetrically laid out but its equipped to the brim with features, just like the Hector. Quality of materials used inside the cabin are also top-notch, enough to give the Japanese and the Koreans a run for their money. It will likely be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines.
