Honda has only launched the BS-6 petrol version of the City first and the diesel will follow some time later. The City sees an increment of Rs. 15,000 in average for each of the trims.
Honda Cars India have launched the BS-6 compliant petrol version of the City in India today. The prices for the BS-6 Honda City petrol start from Rs. 9.91 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 14.31 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec ZX variant. Honda has only introduced the BS-6 petrol variant of the city as of now while the diesel version will be introduced subsequently. This also makes the Honda City the first mid-size sedan in its segment to begin sales of BS6 version. This makes the City the third BS-6 compliant model in Honda’s lineup after the CR-V and the Civic.
In comparison, the ex-showroom prices of the BS-IV compliant Honda City used to fall in the range of Rs 9.81 lakh to Rs 14.16 lakh for the petrol models. This means that each variant of the City has seen an average price hike of about Rs. 10,000- to Rs. 15,000. The 1.5L, four-cylinder petrol engine in the City produces 119 bhp and Honda continues to offer both manual and CVT gearbox options with the petrol engine. Currently, the 1.5 liter petrol engine is the only BS-6 compliant petrol engine in Honda’s lineup and it also does duty in the BR-V. Honda’s 1.2 liter petrol engine and 1.5 liter diesel will also be upgraded to meet the norms pretty soon.
Using this opportunity, Honda has also upgraded the infotainment system in the City. Honda City is now available with Digipad 2.0 – an advanced infotainment system, in V, VX and ZX variants. The 17.7 cm Advanced Touchscreen Audio, Video and Navigation system comes with seamless smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a host of advanced functionality like in-built Satellite Linked Turn-by-Turn navigation, Live Traffic support through USB Wi-Fi receiver, Voice Command, Messages, Bluetooth Handsfree Telephony & Audio and Wireless Infrared Remote.
Commenting on the launch Mr. Rajesh Goel, Sr. Vice President & Director, Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd, said, “Honda is committed to bring its latest and advanced environment friendly technologies to the Indian market in line with the policy framework of Government of India. The launch of BS-6 Honda City will be followed by sequential introduction of BS-6 versions of other models in our line-up.” He further added, “The new Digipad 2.0 in the Honda City will provide enhanced features, along with greater access and connectivity on the go to our customers, thereby delivering ease and convenience,”.
