New patent images reveal that Honda is working on a 160cc neo-sports cafe motorcycle which seems to have a lot in common with the CB Hornet 160R sold in India.
Honda has filed a patent for a new motorcycle and from the looks of the patent image, this neo-retro scrambler-styled motorcycle seems to be based on the Honda CB Hornet 160R sold in India. It is expected to be a premium commuter motorcycle from Honda and the design seems to be inspired from Honda’s Neo-Sports Cafe concept. This patent has been filed for the European market and this yet to be named 160cc motorcycle from Honda seems to have a lot in common with the Honda CB Hornet 160R.
From the patent images that have surfaced, we can tell you that the frame and engine, as well as the alloy wheels very closely resemble those of the Honda CB Hornet 160R sold in India. Just like the CB Hornet 160R, this motorcycle also seems to be using an air-cooled engine with a single downtube chassis. The bike also has the same wheel design and brake rotors.
There are however certain differences which sets this new motorcycle apart from the CB Hornet 160R that we know. For instance, this motorcycle seems to be using an upside down fork upfront as opposed to the telescopic suspension on the CB Hornet 160R. What is unclear at this moment is whether this is the next-generation of the CB Hornet 160R or a completely new model, possibly joining the Honda CB300R, and the Honda CB1000R family, with the Honda CB160R moniker.

The design is however clearly inspired from Honda’s Neo Sports Cafe, like the CB300R and the CB1000R, with the round LED headlamp, muscular and chiselled bodywork, with a sleek tail section. This motorcycle in the patent images also seem to have a different exhaust and the subframe could be also different to accommodate the flat rear seat.

What is also unclear at this moment is whether Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India will also introduce something like this, possibly as a BS-6 replacement for the Honda CB Hornet 160R, or maybe as an altogether new model positioned as a slightly premium offering in the Honda CB series. Either way, it’s certainly going to be a looker in the 160 cc segment, and if Honda does decide to launch it in India, it will certainly shake up things in the premium commuter segment with those sharp looks!
