In terms of design, the Grand Commander is a simple looking SUV with a no nonsense attitude. It looks big, burly and butch. The face gets the traditional seven-slatted grille with sleek LED headlamps and DRLs. The indicator units are positioned below and outside the main headlamp unit. The bumper gets a sleek air dam and round fog lamps. In profile, the SUV comes with an upright silhouette while the squared-off wheel arches and 19-inch alloy wheels add to the SUV stance. At the rear, there’s a wrap around rear windscreen, split LED tail lamps, some chrome garnishes, a splitter and dual exhausts.

Dimensionally, the Grand Commander is 4873mm long, 1892mm wide, 1738mm tall and has a 2800mm-long wheelbase. That makes it shorter than the Endeavor but longer than the Fortuner. Its wider than both the Fortuner and Endeavor but in height, its again shorter than both. Its wheelbase also sits in between the Fortuner and the Endeavor.

On the inside, the dashboard looks a lot similar to the Grand Cherokee and that’s a great thing. A large infotainment system takes center stage on the dashboard flanked by vertical AC vents. Other feel-good elements include the hooded dials and a chunky three-spoke steering wheel. In terms of features, the SUV gets Apple CarPlay, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, cruise control, powered front seats, a coloured multi-info display, a Harman sound system as well as keyless entry with push button start. Safety features include an electric parking brake with auto hold, lane assistant, a blind spot monitor and rear parking blindspot warning.

It is expected to arrive in India by 2021.

In China, the Jeep Grand Commander gets a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that comes in two states of tune – 234bhp and 350Nm (two-wheel drive) and 265bhp and 400Nm (all-wheel drive). In either state of tune, the engine comes paired to Jeep’s 9-speed automatic transmission. In India, Jeep will most likely offer a diesel engine with this seven-seater SUV as well. As said earlier, this seven-seater SUV from Jeep is only expected to arrive by 2021 in India and it is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 35 lakh, ex-showroom.
