Audi’s smallest SUV, the Q2, is now the brand’s oldest so engineers and designers are busy putting the final touches to an updated version of its Mercedes GLA rival.
These first spy pictures show the updated Q2 cold weather testing. As a mid-life update the visual changes, as you can see from the images, are somewhat minor. Behind the disguise at the front and rear, a new set of bumpers will be fitted to bring the baby SUV in line with the rest of the recently updated Audi SUV range.

The headlamps on this prototype have not changed shape but fresh LED units can be seen in the images, giving the Q2 a new lighting signature. It’s also likely that LED headlamps will come as standard on all updated models.
There are no images of the cabin but don’t expect a huge overhaul there either; adding the new dual-screen infotainment like that seen on the new Q7 will not be viable in the Q2 given the cost of such technology and the relatively low £23,000 entry price of the current SUV. Again, only minor trim and material updates are expected inside.

Audi is likely to spend more of its development budget on the Q2’s engine line-up. Expect a suite of new 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrains to feature in the crossover as the firm looks to drive down its average fleet CO2 emissions.
An all-new version of the Q2’s main rival, the Mercedes GLA, is only weeks away. The two premium crossovers will hit showrooms around the same time, towards the middle of next year.
