If Skoda brings the forth generation Fabia to India, it will based on the MQB AO IN platform here in India. Sadly, Skoda skipped the current generation of the Fabia in India.
Skoda first introduced the Fabia in India way back in 2008 but then eventually discontinued it in 2013 due to low sales. The current generation Fabia was then introduced in 2014 for international markets but Skoda never brought that to India. However, there’s a brand new Skoda Fabia that’s coming very soon and it could also make its way to India.
The upcoming Fabia will be the forth generation of the hatchback and it wasn’t expected until late 2021 or early 2022. However, Skoda seems to have fast forwarded their plans as reports suggest that the fourth-gen Fabia is set to be fast tracked for an early 2021 debut. The new Fabia will be based on the MQB AO platform. The current gen Fabia is a mix of the older PQ26 platform and some bits from the MQB platform. This only means that the next-gen Fabia will see some major upgrades.
Although we do not know how the new Fabia is going to look like, we can tell its going to drastically different from the present model. That’s because its completely shifting to the new MQB AO platform. We expect the design to be more in line with newer Skoda cars with a split LED headlamp design and a wider and more aggressive body style. However, dimensionally, its not expected to be drastically different from the current car as its intended to be a small family hatchback and it also has to be differentiated from the Scala.
The interiors of the next-gen Fabia is expected to be similar to the current-gen Fabia that is sold internationally but of course, it will be more modern and will come with generous amount of tech as well. The new Fabia could feature a host of interior equipment upgrades such as Skoda’s MIB 3.0 Infotainment system, as well as touchscreen options of 6.5-inch, 8-inch and 9.2-inches.

But what will be under the hood, you ask? The next-gen Fabia could be powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine with power outputs ranging from 94bhp to 114bhp. Of course it will also see some sort of electrification. Skoda could launch a mild-hybrid variant for the Fabia with either 12V or 48V hybrid capacity options. There’s no word on a diesel engine and most likely, there won’t be one as the VW Group is pushing for electrification.

Skoda unfortunately gave a skip to the current-gen Fabia in India. If the forth-gen Fabia makes its way to India, it will be based on the MQB AO IN platform for India. Skoda has a very important year lined up ahead of them in India. They are going to have one of the most exciting stands at the Expo with the Superb facelift, Karoq, Octavia RS245, the BS6-compliant Rapid and a Kamiq-based SUV.
