The Renault Triber will soon get a new Renault-Nissan-developed, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine which is expected to produce about 95 bhp.
Since the Renault Triber was launched back in August 2019, it has been available with only one engine-gearbox combination. However, Renault will soon be introducing a turbo-petrol engine option with the Triber. Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO and MD, Renault India, recently stated, “By the end of the first quarter next year (March 2020), we will be introducing a new variant of Triber which will be followed by the AMT variant later.”
We had already reported that the Triber would be launched with a new turbo-petrol engine and this statement just affirms our previous report. The new engine is a Renault-Nissan-developed, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine. In fact, this engine will be powering a range of cars from Nissan and Renault in India from 2020. The specifications and outputs from this engine has not been revealed yet, but we expect the engine to be producing close to 95 bhp and it will most likely be offered with a manual gearbox.
The same engine will also come on Renault’s upcoming HBC sub-compact SUV. It is set to make an appearance at the 2020 Auto Expo, most likely in its production form. The engine will also get dual variable valve timing and an exhaust manifold partially integrated into the cylinder head. As of now, the Renault Triber comes with a 1.0 Litre petrol unit, that produces 72 BHP and 96 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox only. An AMT gearbox will be added on the Triber very soon. It is however unknown if both the engines will get the AMT gearbox.
