Tata Altroz To Get Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission – Report

At the time of the launch, the Tata Altroz will only come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. A couple of months later, it might get the Dual-Clutch Auto Transmission.

Tata Motors has finally unveiled the Altroz premium hatchback in India. The bookings for that have already commenced across all Tata dealerships and the prices of the hatchback will be announced in January 2020.

Altroz gets BS-6 compliant petrol and diesel engines, one from the Tiago and one from the Nexon. Tiago’s 1.2 Litre petrol engine produces 86 BHP and 113 Nm of peak torque. Nexon’s 1.5 Litre diesel engine is used but in a slightly detuned manner. On the Altroz, the engine puts out 90 BHP and 200 Nm of peak torque.

Tata is offering a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard on both the engines initially. A couple of months later in the course, Tata Altroz will also get an automatic gearbox. Most likely, Tata will equip the Altroz with a dual-clutch auto transmission.

Tata Altroz will be the first car from the manufacturer to get the dual-clutch automatic transmission. Most of them come mated to AMT gearboxes which Tata thinks would not go for a premium hatchback. The DCT will be sourced from Punch, capable of smoother gearshifts and better fuel efficiency.

The new gearbox will most likely go with the petrol engine only. There would not be any diesel-auto configuration. Amongst its rivals, Baleno, Jazz and Elite i20 get a CVT gearbox. Polo GT TSI gets a dual-clutch auto gearbox.

Features on the Tata Altroz will include 7-inch floating touchscreen infotainment, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital instrument console, projector headlamps, front and rear fog lamps, height-adjustable driver’s seat, steering mounted audio controls, cruise control and much more.

Safety features on board include dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX and cornering lights as standard fitment. The rear-view camera comes on the top two variants. Also, it is built on Tata’s new platform which is stronger and lighter as well.

Our review on the Tata Altroz will be out on December 9. So, stay tuned on our website as well as our YouTube channel!
