Here’s a comprehensive list of all the upcoming cars at the 2020 Auto Expo from all the mainstream manufacturers, new entrants and premium car makers.
The 2020 Indian Auto Expo is just about a couple of weeks away, to be held from February 7th to 12th, 2020. Over the years, the Auto Expo has seen a lot of action with new upcoming cars, concepts and technology and the 2020 iteration will be no different. However, currently, the Indian automobile market has been in its lowest in the last two decades. Several factors have contributed towards that including rising ownership cost of vehicles and the upcoming BS-VI emission norms.
In the face of such circumstances many mainstream manufacturers have decided not to participate at the 2020 Auto Expo. That includes the likes of Honda, Toyota, Ford, Jeep and almost all of the luxury carmakers. In fact, Mercedes-Benz is the only luxury car maker at this year’s Auto Expo. Having said that, there’s no dearth of exciting things lined up at the 2020 Auto Expo. So here’s all the upcoming cars that you can look forward to at the 2020 Auto Expo – India’s largest automobile event.
Upcoming Cars At The 2020 Auto Expo
Maruti Suzuki
Vitara Brezza Petrol
Maruti Suzuki has announced that they will be discontinuing all their diesel engines come April 2020 because of the upcoming BS6 norms. The Vitara Brezza was available only with a diesel engine ( Maruti’s 1.3 liter diesel unit) until now. However, with Maruti phasing out their diesel engines, the Vitara Brezza will no longer be available as a diesel car. Maruti will be launching the Vitara Brezza with a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine and along with that, the Brezza will see a major facelift with several cosmetic revisions as well.
S-Cross Petrol
Just like the Vitara Brezza, the S-Cross too was available with a sole diesel engine. It too was powered by the same 1.3 liter diesel engine and just like the Brezza, the S-Cross diesel will also be phased out. Maruti will launch the S-Cross with a petro engine which is likely to be the same 1.5 liter petrol engine as in the Brezza. However, like the Brezza, the S-Cross is not expected to see any cosmetic facelift.
XL5
We have reported you with several spy shots of the upcoming XL5 over time. The XL5 is based on the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and it is deemed to be a more premium version of the Wagon R. The bigger news is that the XL5 is indeed the Wagon R based EV that Maruti has been working on for quite some time now. The XL5 also features several styling updates over the Wagon R and we will have more details on the technical specifications of the XL5 once it debuts at the Auto Expo.
Hyundai
Next-Gen Creta
At the Auto Expo, the biggest show stopper at the Hyundai stand will be the next-gen Creta. Its one of the most anticipated SUVs and it has been completely redesigned from its predecessor. The new Creta will feature completely new styling with split headlamps and a more premium look. The interiors have also been completely changed and it packs in much more technology than before. It will also receive a new set of engines, perhaps some from the Kia Seltos as well.
Verna and Tuscon Facelift
Along with the next-gen Creta, Hyundai is also expected to show the facelifted versions of the Verna and the Tuscon. Both these cars will see a major cosmetic revision, both on the inside and the outside but will remain largely the same mechanically. They will also get BS6 versions of their current engines. The Verna and Tuscon facelifts have already been showcased in China, and while the India-spec version of these cars might carry some differences, the new design is inline with all newer Hyundai Cars.
Tata Motors
Gravitas
The most anticipated car from Tata Motors is the new Gravitas. The Gravitas is a seven-seater version of the Harrier and as such, an extremely important product for India. Tata has already showcased the Gravitas at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and the SUV looks identical on the face, but has been stretched past the C-Pillar, and aesthetically so. It looks quite handsome and a well-proportioned SUV. Along with this, Tata is also expected to showcase the automatic version of the Harrier as well.
H2X Compact SUV
Internally known as the Tata Hornbill, the production-spec H2X sub-compact SUV is expected to be launched towards the end of 2020. However, me might get to see this upcoming SUV from Tata in real much ahead at the 2020 Auto Expo. This sub-compact SUV will be the second car to be based on the modular ALFA platform after the Tata Altroz. In Tata’s lineup, the H2X will sit above the Tiago but below the Altroz. The prices can be between the 4-7 Lakhs range, slightly higher than the S-Presso and Kwid.
Altroz EV
Tata Motors will soon be launching the regular Altroz on January 22. Soon after, they will be launching their very first EV, the Nexon EV, on January 28. At the Auto Expo, we expect that Tata Motors will be displaying the Altroz EV for the first time in India. Like the Nexon EV, the Altroz EV will also be powered by Tata’s Ziptron technology and it will also feature some EV specific styling over the regular Altroz.
MG Motors
Hector 6/7 Seater
First, we might see the MG Hector 6/7-seater in the production-ready form. It has been spotted a couple of times already. The SUV will be slightly longer than the Hector and will also get minor styling tweaks to differentiate itself from its 5-seater sibling. Other than that, the SUV is expected to be largely the same on the mechanical front. It will take on the likes of the 7-seater Harrier.
ZS ICE SUV
MG is also planning to bring the ZS SUV to India, which is basically the ICE-powered version of the recently launched ZS EV. According to a leaked document, the SUV is already being tested in India with a 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5 Litre mild-hybrid engine. The ZS will rival the likes of Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. Internationally, the ZS is already available with ICE engines.
Maxus D90
In the big SUV space, MG is also bringing the Maxus D90 to India this year. It is a full-size SUV which will cost an upwards of Rs 25 Lakhs. The MG SUV will go against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4, Ford Endeavour and Honda CR-V. MG has been spotted testing the D90 SUV in India on a couple of occasions and we expect to see the India-spec D90 at the 2020 Auto Expo.
Kia
Carnival MPV
This year, Kia will be showcasing the Carnival Premium MPV at the Auto Expo. It will be Kia’s second product in India and will sit above the Innova Crysta. It is a really luxurious MPV and could be priced around the Rs. 35 lakhs mark. The Carnival will be available with multiple seating configurations (6, 7, or 8) and is absolutely loaded with features and technology on the inside.
Kia Sub-compact SUV
Kia Motors will also be showcasing a sub-compact SUV, which is based on the platform of Hyundai Venue but will look completely different. Ahead of the launch, we have spotted Kia testing its sub-compact SUV on the roads of Delhi NCR. Although camouflaged, but looks the SUV is almost ready to debut. The Kia sub-compact SUV will most likely borrow its engine from Venue. The 1.2 Litre petrol engine and the 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol unit, in their BS-6 compliant forms, will come on the Kia SUV. It is expected to be launched in the country in the second quarter of 2020.
Volkswagen
AO Sub-Compact SUV
The Volkswagen sub-compact SUV will see a world premiere at the Auto Expo. It has been spied testing in India a couple of times, already. The newest entrant in the trending sub-compact SUV space will go against the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue. Counting Volkswagen’s decision to discontinue diesel engines, the sub-compact SUV will be an all-petrol model.
T-Cross
Volkswagen has said that they will showcase the India-spec T-Cross at the 2020 Auto Expo. The Volkswagen T-Cross will be built on a modified-for-India, version of the MQB platform, known as MQB A0 IN. The India-spec Volkswagen T-Cross will have a wheelbase of 2,651mm which is significantly longer than the European-spec version by 90-100mm. All this extra space has gone in between the wheels to make for a larger cabin. The T-Cross will go against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur.
T-Roc
The T-Roc will sit below the Tiguan in Volkswagen India line-up and it will come to the country as a CBU. Dimensionally as well, the SUV is shorter in length than the Tiguan but it looks much sportier than its elder sibling. The T-Roc is underpinned by Volkswagen’s modular MQB platform which also underpins the Tiguan. The T-Roc is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with 150 bhp in India. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Volkswagen is expected to price the T-Roc at around the Rs. 20 lakh mark.
Tiguan AllSpace
The Tiguan AllSpace will replace the standard Tiguan in India. Volkswagen India will showcase the Tiguan AllSpace at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020 in February, which will be followed by a market launch soon after. In terms of the styling, the AllSpace looks pretty much similar to the standard Tiguan. It is when you view it in profile, that the Allspace’s longer length and the longer rear overhang becomes evident. The Tiguan AllSpace will be offered with only a BS-6 petrol engine in India.
Skoda
Karoq SUV
We have already reported to you that Skoda will be debuting a mid-size SUV at the Auto Expo 2020. Skoda teased us with sketch images of this SUV sometime ago and they are calling it the Vision IN. The 5-seater SUV borrows its design inspiration from its sibling Karoq and Kodiaq. The SUV measures 4.2 m in length. Skoda Kamiq is based on the MQB AO IN platform which has been re-engineered for the Indian market. The India-spec model will also come with longer wheelbase thus indicating a spacious cabin with improved knee and legroom. The car will be heavily localised in India to keep the cost in check.
Octavia RS
The Skoda Octavia RS will make its India comeback at the Auto Expo 2020. Skoda will be bringing the current-gen, Euro-spec Octavia RS. The newer Octavia RS is more powerful than the previous iteration of the Octavia RS that was sold in India. It also sits lower and has lesser ground clearance than the previous car. The Skoda Octavia RS is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, which now puts out 245hp and 370Nm of torque.

The Mahindra Thar is one of the most loved SUVs by Indian and it is going to make a comeback in its second generation at the 2020 Auto Expo. The new Thar is going to be much more premium on the inside than its predecessor. It has also grown in size and will be available with hard-top and soft-top roof options. The new Thar will use BS6 compliant 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine which will be more fuel-efficient and better in refinement than the on-going model.
Next-gen Scorpio
The next-gen Scorpio will get a complete makeover, which includes a new platform, new engines and ton of feature upgrades. Going by the spy shots, the shape of the Scorpio is a lot different from its current version. Mahindra will replace the existing engine with a newly developed 2.0 Litre turbo-diesel engine in the new Scorpio. The engine is expected to produce 160 BHP and 350 Nm of peak torque. The new Scorpio will also get many exciting features right from the mid-spec trims.
Next-Gen XUV500
Mahindra has been working on the XUV500 for quite some time now. It is slated for a market launch sometime in mid-2020. From earlier spy shots seen of the next-gen XUV500, we can say that the design of this new SUV is an evolution of the current design. However, Mahindra has completely redesigned the interiors of the XUV500 and its much more premium than before. The next-gen Mahindra XUV500 will be powered by the same 2.2 liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. It will however produce more power than before at 180 bhp and will also be BS-6 compliant.
Renault
HBC Compact SUV
This new sub-compact SUV from Renault will slot under the Duster in the French carmaker’s lineup in India. It will be underpinned by the Compact Modular Family (CMF-A) platform. It is the same platform on which the Triber is based and like we have seen with the Triber, Renault has given utmost priority to cabin space with this sub-compact SUV. The Renault HBC will be powered by petrol engines only in India. We will see Renault’s 1.0 liter, three cylinder petrol engine making its way into the HBC SUV. There are also talks of Renault introducing a turbocharged petrol engine in the HBC. Prices are likely to be in the Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh range.

Renault has launched the Kwid electric in the Chinese market and will make its India debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. Renault has confirmed that the EV will offer a driving range of 250 kms.
Haval Motors
H4 SUV
Great Wall Motors from China will make their India debut with the Haval brand. The first model that Haval will launch in India in 2021 is the H4. In terms of dimensions, the H4 is larger than the Creta and it has a no-nonsense SUV design. It is smart looking SUV which is well proportioned and it somehow reminds you of the Jeep Compass. It is powered by a 1.5 liter turbo-petrol engine which produces 170 bhp and power is sent only to the front wheels.
H6 SUV
The larger H6 is based on the same platform as the H4 but has a longer wheelbase of 2,680mm and an increased length of 4.6m. The H6 is Haval’s best selling product and one of the most successful SUVs sold in China. This, like the smaller H4, has a design that is very American, with its face resembling Jeep SUVs. On the interiors, the dashboard is asymmetrically laid out but its equipped to the brim with features. It will likely be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines.
