Reports confirm the introduction of Bajaj Dominar 250 at the Auto Expo. It will use a detuned version of the Duke 250’s engine.
Bajaj is going to introduce Dominar with a smaller 250cc engine at the 2020 Auto Expo. Bajaj Dominar 250 was rumoured to be launched for a long time. Earlier, it was reported that it might use the 200cc engine from NS.
Dominar being one of the most value for money motorcycle under 2 Lakhs, it still does not attract a large number of buyers. With the facelift introduced some time back, things did get better for Dominar but only for a fair amount of time.
In a recent interview, Rajiv Bajaj confirmed that Dominar 250 would be introduced to make the power cruiser accessible to a wider audience. Also, it would be priced aggressively, continuing Dominar’s value for money approach.

Dominar 250 will borrow its engine from KTM Duke 250, but in a detuned manner. The engine on Duke produces 30 PS and 24 Nm of peak torque. The engine has just received a BS6 upgrade and so, the Dominar will directly get a BS6 engine. The motor will come mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
Unlike the Dominar 400, the smaller version might use telescopic forks instead of USD forks. Also, the tyres could be thinner along with new and cheaper swingarm. The disc brake sizes could also be reduced. All these things will help keep the prices in check.
Other things that will come from the Dominar 400 will be the fully digital instrument console, LED headlamps, the alloy wheels, the small digital meter on the fuel tank, split seats and the dual-port exhaust muffler.

The Dominar 400 goes for a price of Rs 1.90 Lakhs. For the Dominar 250, Bajaj might keep the prices under Rs 1.5 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom). It will compete with the likes of Yamaha MT-15, KTM Duke 200, Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Suzuki Gixxer 250.
