BS-6 Toyota Fortuner, Innova Crysta Bookings to Start from January Second Week

The BS-6 Toyota Fortuner and Innova Crysta will be about Rs. 1-1.5 lakhs more expensive than the BS-4 models and will continue will all their present engines.

Its 2020 already and the BS-6 norms would be effective in just three months. Most manufacturers have already geared up to launch their BS-6 vehicles. We recently reported that Toyota has opened bookings for the BS-6 Yaris and now, we have come to learn that bookings for the BS6-compliant Toyota Innova Crysta and Fortuner will officially open in the second week of January 2020.

The sources say that Toyota will open bookings for the BS-6 Fortuner and Innova Crysta on January 6. However, a number of dealers across the country have already exhausted their stock of BS-4 models and have already unofficially opened bookings for the BS6 models, with the booking amount set at Rs 50,000. The deliveries for the BS-6 Toyota Fortuner and Innova Crysta will however only expected to commence by end-February or early in March. That is because the company wants to ensure that BS-6 fuel is available across the country by the time the BS-6 models hit the road.

The Fortuner and the Innova Crysta are two quite expensive cars but still they have been Toyota’s bread-and-butter models in India for years now. They are hugely popular for what they are – the Innova Crysta as a premium people’s mover and the Fortuner as a tough thoroughbred SUV. With the BS-6 update, both the cars will get noticeably more expensive and we are expecting the hike in price to be in the region of Rs. 1-1.5 lakhs. The engines will require sophisticated and complex Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology as well as a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

The Toyota Innova Crysta is currently powered by three engine options in India. There’s a 2.7 liter petrol engine that comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. As for the diesel engines, there are two units – a 2.4-liter diesel engine and a 2.8-liter diesel engine. The former comes mated only to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the latter only gets the 6-speed automatic transmission. As for the Fortuner, it gets the 2.7 liter petrol and the 2.8 liter diesel engines, available with both manual and automatic transmissions. All three engines will be updated to comply with BS-6 norms.

Starting April 2020, the Innova Crysta and Fortuner will be the only locally-manufactured diesel models in Toyota’s India line-up. The Etios family will be phased out and the Yaris and the Glanza are petrol only models. Toyota’s super-luxury MPV, the Vellfire, will also be available only as a petrol-hybrid model, and is set to be launched in the coming weeks with prices ranging from Rs 85-90 lakh.
