Ford EcoSport Loses Its 1.0 Litre Turbo-Petrol EcoBoost Engine

Ahead of the BS6 norms, Ford EcoSport with the 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol EcoBoost engine has been discontinued. It will not make a comeback anytime soon.

Going by a leaked circular, Ford has stopped the bookings for EcoSport 1.0 Litre turbo petrol variants. The award-winning EcoBoost engine, which made a comeback in 2018 on the S variant, will be permanently discontinued.

Due to the upcoming BS6 norms, the Ford EcoSport Ecoboost engine is getting costlier to upgrade. Ford had earlier confirmed that it will discontinue the engine post-April 2020. Now, only leftover stock will be sold until the deadline.

The 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol EcoBoost engine on the Ford EcoSport was launched with the SUV in 2013. After a couple of years, it was discontinued for a short time. When Ford launched the S and Signature trims of EcoSport, the turbo engine made a comeback.

The engine was tuned to produce 125 PS and 170 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. EcoSport S is the top-end variant and gets its own design bits like different alloy wheels, colour options and graphics.

Ford EcoSport BS6 will continue with its existing 1.5 Litre petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine produces 123 PS and 150 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine produces 100 PS and 205 Nm of peak torque. 5-speed MT comes as standard on both the variants, while the petrol engine also gets a 6-speed AT option.

Reports suggest that Ford might introduce another 1.2 Litre turbo-petrol engine in collaboration with Mahindra. The latter uses a turbo engine on the XUV 300 and Ford might borrow it once its BS-6 version is launched.
