The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will get a new 1.5 liter petrol engine with 105 bhp and will discontinue the 1.3 liter diesel engine. It also gets several cosmetic changes as well.
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has till now been powered only by a 1.3 liter diesel engine. Maruti Suzuki is however now going to introduce a 1.5 liter petrol engine in the Vitara Brezza. The petrol powered Brezza has been in the works for quite some time now and we have even reported you with several spy shots over time. Now, we have almost all the details about the Vitara Brezza petrol and with it, will come a mid-life facelift for the SUV as well.
The Vitara Brezza will be powered by a BS-6 compliant, 1.5 liter petrol engine that already does duty on the Ertiga and the Ciaz. It produces 105hp at 6,000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 4,600rpm. Come April 2020, Maruti Suzuki will discontinue the current 1.3 liter diesel engine on the Brezza. The petrol engine will be offered with two gearbox options – a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic transmission.
Maruti will be offering this 1.5 liter petrol engine with Maruti Suzuki’s fuel-saving Smart Hybrid tech, although that will be only on the automatic variant. This means that the manual variant of the Brezza petrol will not feature the stop-start system and integrated starter generator in order to keep prices competitive. The SUV will not feature ESP but will come with a hill-hold assist feature.
With regards to the mid-life facelift, there are several changes on that front too. On the front, it gets a brushed silver chin insert with new headlamp styling. The front bumper has been slightly revised to fit in the bigger fog lamp housing. Although the shape of the headlamp are the same, there are new chrome inserts inside the unit and a large LED daytime running lamp positioned at the bottom.
The Brezza will also get faux skid plates on both the front and rear bumper, all-black alloy-wheels for mid-spec variants, and diamond-cut alloy wheels for the top-spec ZXI+ trim that will also come with LED fog lamps. At the rear, there’s a some revision to the tail lamps with new LEd bits and there are talks that the turn indicators could be LED units as well, thus imparting a more premium look.
The refreshed Vitara Brezza will get two new exterior paint shades – Sizzling Red and Torque Blue. There will also be three new dual-tone exterior paint shade combinations – Granite Grey with an orange roof, Torque blue with a black roof and Sizzling Red with a black roof. Higher variants will also feature power-folding wing mirrors and a compact roof antenna. It could even get a wireless charger on higher variants, something that would be a segment first.

The Vitara Brezza facelift will also come with some updates to the interiors. For example, the SUV will get the latest version of the SmartPlay Studio infotainment system seen in all new offerings from the company. The screen will also double up as a display for the reverse camera. Higher variants will get a leather wrapped steering wheel and an auto dimming rear view mirror as standard.

However, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza petrol will not be significantly cheaper than the diesel version of the car. That’s due to the BS-6 upgrades and with a 1.5 liter engine, it will not enjoy the excise benefits that is available on petrol-powered sub-four-metre vehicles that have engine capacity below 1.2 litres. The Brezza petrol will then rival the petrol versions of the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, the Tata Nexon and the Hyundai Venue in the Indian market. Furthermore, the SUV will see competition from Renault’s upcoming HBC compact SUV that may see a late 2020 unveil sporting a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine.
