Hyundai had previously hinted about bringing the N performance sub-brand to India and now the i30 N Fastback will on display at the 2020 Auto Expo.
Hyundai is going to have quite a busy stall at this year’s Auto Expo. Hyundai will be debuting the all-new Creta and the Verna facelift and they will also be launching the Tucson facelift in India. Now we have come to know that Hyundai will also be displaying the i30 N Fastback at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The Hyundai i30 N was the first car to roll out of Hyundai’s N performance sub-brand. Then the 130 N Fastback followed and eventually more models. The 130 N hot-hatch is based on the standard 130 hatchback (which is sold internationally) and then this being a performance car, it gets several cosmetic and mechanical upgrades.
The Fastback is mechanically identical to the hot-hatch but comes with a raked coupe-like roofline, which is from where it gets its name. The Fastback also sees its drag co-efficient reduce from 0.32Cd to 0.297Cd as compared to the hatchback. The overall length has also increased by about 120mm.
The Hyundai i30 N Fastback is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 275hp and 378Nm of peak torque (353Nm without the overboost function). It even comes fitted with a electronically limited slip differential (E-LSD), five drive modes – Eco, Normal, Sport, Sport N and N Custom – a rev-matching function and also launch control, all as standard fit.

The brakes, suspension and also the tyres, all have been given a upgrade over the standard i30 hatchback. Even the exterior, interiors and equipments on board hint at the sportiness of the car. True to being a performance car, the i30 N has had a lengthy testing period which includes more than 9,600km of running on the dreaded Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Hyundai was seen testing the standard i30 hatchback in India back in 2018 and even the previous-gen model was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. It had thus fueled rumors that Hyundai would bring the i30 N to India but that has not happened yet. What is not a rumor is that Hyundai plans to bring the N performance brand to India, and if that happens, it is expected to introduce it with the i30 N Fastback. Along with the launch of the Tucson facelift and the unveiling of the next-gen Creta and Verna facelift, Hyundai stand will also take the wraps off the Grand i10 Nios 1.0 turbo.
